Around the League: Week 16 2/6 - 2/12

Post by 3rdside »

It's not just IT that's the problem though is it?

He not only epic failed to spot this guy's talent, he vastly over estimated Knight's talent - or his mental strength, or both - and had zero concept or concern (both just as bad as each other) about what Dragic brought to the table.

A pretty ugly triple fail in other words.

And I don't really buy the excuse that he made the trades under pressure - either you can identify talent required to build a team or you can't and it's pretty evident McD can't.

And drafting Len over Gobert/Adams is also a pretty big error from a McD that many people just brush by because of the fact that many other teams whiffed in that draft too.

But again, that doesn't excuse incompetence.

I won't include Giannis since that was a complete project which just happened to turn out amazing. I'll also give Jason Kidd all the credit for developing that kid from basically have no basketball skills to the place he is today.

The guy who I desperately wanted in that draft was McCollum. I knew he's gonna be a beast. I still don't think people realize how good McCollum will be, he'll be a slightly lesser version of current Harden when McCollum is in his prime IMO.

I don't agree with that at all. They got a late 1st rounder for a player that had an insanely high PER. It was ridiculous what Thomas was doing in limited minutes that year. I didn't think it was an awful trade, but I hardly was impressed with what we got for him.
I think a lot of that sentiment is due to the other huge misses Ryan made that year. If we didn't pick up Thomas that summer, and someone else did, I don't think we would be kicking ourselves for not signing him. And he didn't have a future here, so getting something for him was good.

All of that said, I am very frustrated with Ryan and the lack of progress we have made as a team under his leadership.

I was the biggest advocate for Len during that draft and felt at the time that he could be the best in the long term. I tend to be really intrigued by Giannis and Gobert, just because of their measurables and mystery. Along with the thought that the Suns could have traded down and started to restock their whoa-fully depleted stock of young talent.

As far as McCollum, he's very good, but he's also 5 years older than Booker. So give me Booker, as he seems to have much more upside. Watson needs to reign him in a little bit though, as it's becoming a circus show and them trying to get him shots and pts to push a streak or something that isn't earned organically while trying to win.

I'd do Len, Warren, and any two picks that aren't our 2017 1st.

In an ideal world sure, but no way Detroit trades Drummond without a guaranteed lotto pick involved.

In that case I'd say no.

Thats crazy, a proven 23yo commodity at a position of need, I have no problem trading a lotto pick for that.

If you gave me the choice of Fultz or Drummond, I'd take Fultz. Drummond is great, but he'll never be the best player on a contender. Too limited offensively. He's a younger Deandre Jordan

I think McCollum could play PG next to Booker. He has underrated playmaking skills and isn't a selfish player at all.

If it was at all possible, we should try and get him someway some how. He'll be better than Bledsoe soon enough and doesn't have injury problems.

Thats assuming Fultz ever pans out. Just take a look at the guy in LA we just hammered as example of a extra hyped combo guard not living up to his billing. We know what Drummond is, we already have our best player on a contender candidate in Booker.

McCollum-Booker would be a terrible defensive backcourt.

Indeed, just look at his current backcourt as an example. I dont think Booker will ever be a good defender, I'd settle for servicable like Reggie Miller. Just try and dont take dumb fouls.

Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I don't know about Portland, but Phoenix 2014 was definitely a fluke. We thought we had struck gold with a 2-PG idea. But really that only worked well because one PG or the other was out for most of the season, so we really just had two starting-caliber PGs available all year. The reactions we made to that season were pretty bad overall.
i think the suns had a better record when the 2 pgs were available. and the suns won 48 games that year compared to 44 for portland.

Is Drummond available or something? Or are just spitballing trades? I for one would take Drummond. The FT% shooting is worrisome, but he has such great skills in other areas that I think he's worth it.

Supposedly they were taking calls and/or gauging interest...

I used to be a big Drummond fan but I started watching a couple of Pistons games this season and I can see why their so frustrated with him. He's insanely inconsistent and has certain moments where you forget he's even in the game.

His defense is atrocious because he doesn't contest shots so he just waits for the rebound. And offensively he's completely useless.

I'll pass. I want a rim protector C.
