PJ Tucker to the Raptors
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
Two second rounders ares not nothing. We are fans and we are not actually running the team. I don't see this so called desperation from the Raptors that you do. If anything they made their big splash with the Ibaka's trade and if that doesn't take them over the hump then I highly doubt that PJ puts them over the brink to the point where they sacrifice another first.
I'm not gonna point to all the late second rounder successes to prove a point. We all know they do exist. We can use picks to stash someone for 3 yrs in the future or, as someone else mentioned, second rounders can be sold. We can sell them to the Nets or some other team and bring in some profit so Sarver doesn't flinch as much next time we get somewhat closer to losing money. The list of potential benefits go on and on. Two second rounders are not nothing no matter how late. If anything they are worth just a bit more than PJ's on court contributions to this current Suns team as constructed.

Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
McD, in an interview this morning, said they will consider resigning Tucker back this summer. So, if they want him, they will be able to get him for whatever they would have been able to sign him for anyway. If they don't want him this summer, they now have a couple of picks to show for it and more minutes available for TJ. I just don't see a downside.Ring_Wanted wrote:For those picks, I would have kept Tucker, even if he would have been let go next offseason. Just play him less and you are good.
Masai got what he needed and we didn't. If a team is making win now moves you don't settle for that crap. Masai wouldn't have spent a 1stR? So be it. His loss, not ours. It's Toronto who is going to need defense against LeBron, not PHX.
At least those who incesantly wanted to remove Tucker got their wish so there's that.
Anyway, the real moves were Knight for nothing and Bledsoe for a lot (if available).
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
He's just saying that because Tucker was just traded. It was a very luke warm, "Yeah we'd consider that." No chance that happens.

We got something. Not a lot, but something for a guy we can re-sign in the summer. I'm betting we do re-sign him, even though I'm not a fan. I think we also did him a solid given he's been with us during our worst stretch. Give him a shot at the playoffs on a good team, then maybe get a discount to bring him back in the offseason.
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
We're not re-singing him as long as Chandler, Knight and Dudley are all making over $10M a year and you still have a decision needing to be made on Len.

I'm fine about moving on from PJ. He should be able to help Toronto and a good playoff team.

But that is the point. That means they had no intention of resigning him this summer. So how in the world is it bad if we trade him now?carey wrote:He's just saying that because Tucker was just traded. It was a very luke warm, "Yeah we'd consider that." No chance that happens.
1. PJ gets to show his skills in the playoffs and up his market value in his last shot at a big contract. Win for PJ.
2. Suns get two picks for a player that was going to leave anyway. Young players get more pt, and they improve their draft position. Win for the Suns.
3. Raps get an annoying defensive stopper for a playoff run. PJ is not a LeBron stopper. But he will be a pain in the butt for LeBron. Raps win.
Everyone wins.

I'll take it.carey wrote:That's it? 2 future 2nd round picks?

Good point, although he has struggled even in the D League.Shabazz wrote:Not even Bruno?

I don't think so. Tucker isn't really that good.In2ition wrote:It goes to show how valuable teams felt that 1st round picks are this year.

Because Ryan loves him.iLLmatic wrote:I still don't understand why we don't sell high on Bledsoe. He's not apart of the young core and those knees are a ticking time bomb.
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
I don't think he won that trade; I think both teams like what they have. I do think he did a great job with that deal though.Indy wrote:Dragic trade.UglyTruth wrote:Forget the 1st rd pick, how did McD at least not get Bruno or Bebe back?
I can't remember the last trade that McD actually won.
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
Ryan doesn't know what he is doing. He held on to Tucker too long, he held on to Markieff too long, and he's holding on to Bledsoe too long.LazarusLong wrote:
Marty: PJ will be 32 next season, so the next contract he signs probably will be his last.
After working the trenches for bad Suns' teams, he probably wants a chance to compete on a playoff team.
As far as the Suns go, he's an asset with declining value because of his age and size, so management probably isn't going to throw a pile of money at him.

I was talking in general about the trade deadline deals. I agree about Tucker.INFORMER wrote:I don't think so. Tucker isn't really that good.In2ition wrote:It goes to show how valuable teams felt that 1st round picks are this year.

Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
Also 3 steals and no TOs. Raps fans on realgm already raving about the intensity he brings and the impact he makes. Of course those points will almost never be there, but Toronto needs just the defense versatility and rebounding. We don't think we lost much, and given our current situation we didn't, but the Raptors have landed a key piece for their season. That's why he was worth a low 1stR to them and why we should have gotten it.carey wrote:Tucker with 9 points 10 rebounds in 29 minutes in his Raptors debut tonight.
Pickle and Aztec, I get your points, but the issue is simply not taking advantage of opportunity for no apparent reason. Overall a somewhat minor issue all things considered but if there is blook you have to strike. The move does close to nothing for us, while it can help tremendously the Raptors. You have to make them pay.
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
I just don't get the assertion that we can get more out of them if we tried. This is my point. We are not actually in the business, we are fans making speculations from our armchairs. Why are we getting so angry over something for which we definitely aren't getting the full picture on, which also didn't really hurt us? Was there some damage to this franchise, its reputation, or its players, that I'm not seeing?
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
I would even say no... not interested in having young guys that are going to be up for extensions soon who really haven't shown any signs of being worth anything. This may easily be Archie all over again; whatever the team actually does, I don't think I can deal with hearing more gripes from fans about how we are not giving young guys minutes we are holding them back our coaching staff and GMs are clueless. They may very well be, I'm just tired of beating this dead horse. Plus I think Caboclo was a knee jerk reaction to Giannis and he may actually be pretty bad.INFORMER wrote:Good point, although he has struggled even in the D League.Shabazz wrote:Not even Bruno?
Re: PJ Tucker to the Raptors
Yeah, their worth like $1-2 million which to Sarver is about the same as 5 bucks for me or you.Indy wrote:They could buy them? So they aren't free? Hmmm.UglyTruth wrote:No it's not. The Suns could just buy 2nd second picks if they really love some prospect in the 2nd round. Especially for a 2nd rd pick that late.Indy wrote:That is just silly.UglyTruth wrote:2 incredibly late 2nd rounders are worthless.Indy wrote: We can still sign him if we wanted to. This lets him play in the playoffs for the first time in his career, and got us 2 2nd rounders. You take whatever you can get for 2 months of him.
I can urinate in an empty bottle for you and that bottle would have the same value as the 2 second rd Raptors picks.
