I've been looking at some of the lower lottery prospects. I've heard a lot of pro Zach Collins talk around the web. I'm not really sure how I feel about him. He's got good size(7'0 230) good athleticism, and a decent stroke(shot 40% from 3 in very limited attempts) but I'm not sure if he'll defend the rim in the NBA.

Another intriguing guy is OG anunboy, he's built in the draymond green mold, 6'8 235 with a reported 7'6 wingspan. He's a better athlete than green, but doesn't have the play making skills. So he's potentially Green on defense. On offense he could be a roll guy and his stroke might be OK, good enough to keep people honest.

Not likely we'd take either as they're not top 5 picks, but trade situations might make them options.

I feel like this upcoming draft has been slightly overrated as well. It's being called the best draft in 10 years, but as much as I love Fultz, I don't think there's a guaranteed transcendent talent in it. It seems like what's great about it is the depth of tier 2, 3 and 4 players, but that's not much help when you're picking top 5.

I would have been much happier with top 4 next year + top 10 this year than the reverse. Of course, that line of thinking might be completely null and void by this time next year.

Is it the 16th yet?

What drafts in the last 10 years have had a better prospect than Fultz? 2012 and 2015 are the only definitive ones(Anthony Davis and KAT) 2009 with Blake Griffin is likely, I don't remember what the consensus was on him as a prospect. 2010 with Wall is the other possibility. I think Fultz is somewhere around Wall as a prospect ahead of Kyrie and Rose as prospects.

Simmons was a higher rated prospect last year than Fultz. Simmons might end up the ROY next year too, as word is he's grown another 2 inches and is now 7 foot tall.

This is an excellent draft though. The pg prospects this year are insane. Even though the league has a lot of good pgs, this draft has 4 or 5 that would have been the best in nearly every draft in the last 10 years other than Wall.

My point was more that the fact that this is an good draft helps teams in the 7-10 range more than it does in the 3-6 range. I think Fultz is world class. Ball may have that potential, and then you may get the next best player in the draft anywhere in the next 8 picks.

I think the depth will also help us at #32.

I'd add Oden and Durant. I think Fultz and Simmons are on par. I'd say Griffin was above Fultz.

I think I started with 2008, but Durant and oden would be ahead of Fultz. I think Fultz and Simmons would be close, I think I'd pick Fultz though.

Must be nice to be the Lakers. Magic has already assured Luke Walton that they're getting a top three pick:

with Kobe gone, i don't have the same animosity for the Lakers. but i won't shed any tears if they don't get a top pick. the Lakers don't necessarily need top picks. with Kobe gone their LA lure with free agents should kick back in and they'll be sitting pretty again.

oddly, though, why has the big market, big city lights draw failed in NY all these years?

You should still hate the Lakers.

To expound on ShelC's answer, NY does get a lot of big name free agent they want. They just do such a shitty job of picking players and managing the salary cap that they don't win with the guys they have and they don't often have money to bring in new players.

For instance, they didn't manage to land LeBron, but they got Carmelo and Amare. Last year they filled up their cap situation with Noah and Rose. They owe Noah and Courtney Lee big money through '19-'20 (32 mil combined that year). I think Rose's contract is up this summer, so they could theoretically trade Carmelo while he stall has some value and start rebuilding while keeping some cap space for true stars. But they won't. They will sen the max on someone. Either resigning Rose (a 28yr old former MVP "still in his prime") or they will throw the bank at someone else on the market this year.

And you should still hate the Lakers.
