Barbosa is 6-3 with a 6-11 wingspan and one of the fastest players in the league when we drafted him. He was no standout.
Kurt Thomas was a soft 6-9 245 with an unimpressive wingspan and did more for defensively than Amar'e and Steven Hunter.

Good luck, Bone. I am lucky enough to have been a skinny boy all my life, and though I'm 37 now, I am still pretty slender. I have gained a few pounds in the last year, though, and I figure there's probably more where that came from.
I don't watch my food intake much, but I also don't eat a lot of junk food or sweets or between-meal snacks. I run 2-3 times a week for a couple of miles, and I bike to work some days. Overall that helps keep me from ballooning too much.

You can do it. I lost 40lbs initially (which was way too much) and then built back up the right way adding 20-25 lbs of good weight. Diet is 80%. Small meals every 2-3 hours. Egg whites, whole wheat bread/rice, tuna, salmon, chicken, veggies, almonds, walnuts, dark chocolate (70% or higher). Cut out as much sugar as you can, cut out the soft drinks (you can lose 3-5lbs easy just doing this), and don't eat anything with high fructose corn syrup (it's a killer). Try and limit your food intake after 8pm.
Once your knee is recovered, low impact cardio like the bike or elliptical is a good start. Just sweat 20-30 minutes 2-3 times a week. Interval training is the quickest and most effective way to lose those lbs imo.

Everybody has as story about getting healthy, so I'll tell one, too.
My wife lost 70ish pounds using Weight Watchers and now works for them. My outsiders perspective on weight loss is that there isn't really a secret to it. It's just about eating healthy and getting a little exercise like we all know we should. More veggies and fruits, more water, fewer fried foods and sweets, slightly smaller portions, and take a walk in the evening. When that stuff becomes your normal life instead of a temporary diet lifestyle, most folks will just stick around at a nice healthy weight. The advantage of Weight Watchers or Nutrisystem or whatever you choose is that they help structure what you eat so that you can build those habits. And once you have those habits, healthy food really does taste better than junk food and exercise really does feel better than sitting on the couch all night!
On thing I did learn is that healthy weight loss takes time. Averaging one or two pounds a week is healthy for the body and mind, and it's good progress. Lose more than 10 pounds a month regularly, and you might not be eating enough. Wifey took a year to lose her wight, but at the end of that year she was energetic and healthy and felt great. She looks great and goes hiking with me like we used to do. When she used to diet and lose weight faster, she was always tired and cranky and discouraged even when she hit her goal.
Anyway, you can do it! And you're going to feel like a million bucks when you get there.

Thanks for the inspiring stories guys! Two straight hours of full-court basketball (we didn't lose) is what caused the meniscus tear. So I hope to get back on the courts better, and lighter, than ever. I know the weight loss won't continue at it's current pace. I'm sure the initial speed is mostly due to cutting out daily sodas along with the large caloric decline.
I am 5'10" and my peak weight was 215. I'm currently at 206. My initial goal is to get down to 185 which is what I was saying I haven't been down to in the last 20 years. I'd then like to try for 175 which is what my ideal weight is according to the internet.

I had to lose a bunch of weight for high cholesterol and found the South Beach diet to be very effective. I lost nearly 40 pounds in a matter of months and the way the diet reconditions your brain to not crave sugary foods is very helpful for post-diet management. It's basically cutting out all white flower and sugars for the first two weeks (phase 1), then slowly incorporating whole grains and fruits back during the ensuing weeks (phase 2 and 3).

Exercise(weight lifting, cardio, and stretching) along with a diet of good fats works the best, in my experience. Exercise fixes most things, went from 260 to 175 with mostly just exercise and upping my water intake. BP down to normal levels, cholesterol at normal levels, just staying active, drinking water, and taking a multi.
