Full MLE would be pretty great, I'll take 15m or whatever that is now over having Beal waste away doing nothing.
This is definitely the way. But Ishbia is too short-sighted to care.3TheHardaway wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 12:52 pmI much prefer just eating the contact for two years and utilizing 2026-2027 to develop Dunn, Maluach, Fleming (maybe even Green), and then getting a huge chunk of salary cap to use to improve the roster in Summer 2027.
I think the team as is could grow together and chase a playoff bid in the interim, and re-develop some sense of unity and culture that we had with Mikal/Cam/Book/DA that all great teams possess. And then once Beal is off the books, we might be able to afford a missing piece in free agency to push the team to the next level. I recognize FA isn't what it used to be, but valuable players still do hit the market (Turner).
Agree; unless they could get a deal to trade Beal somewhere for another bad but less bad contract, I'd rather just go this wayJeremyG wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 12:59 pmThis is definitely the way. We would have to get under the second apron before the end of the ‘26-‘27 season (April 2027). So we have almost two years to figure it out.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 3:07 pmIf we were to just let Beal stay here for 2 years and not cut/stretch him, would we hit that 2nd apron repeater penalty where we get our 1st round picks moved to the end of the round and/or frozen? How long do we have to get out of the 2nd apron to avoid that penalty? thx
Dude. He'll be gone this week.JeremyG wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 3:36 pmWe would have to get under the second apron before the end of the ‘26-‘27 season (April 2027). Beal is giving up about $7M per year in the buyout, so we don’t need too much more to get under the second apron.Split T wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:30 amI don’t think that gets you far enough…but also you could combine that with dumping Richards and/or Royce and it might…
However, waiving and stretching Grayson is dumb because he’s tradable…he’s got value. I’m not sure there’s a way to fully absorb his salary somewhere, but we could probably trade him for say someone at 9-10 million and save basically the same amount you would in a stretch.
So you want to buyout Beal and then stretch Grayson? So you are against having 19 million of dead money tied up in Beal for 5 years, but 58 million this year, 61 million next year and then 11 million the following 3 years is fine?JeremyG wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 8:14 pmBeal is giving up about $7M per year in the buyout, so we don’t need too much more to get under the second apron.Split T wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 9:30 amI don’t think that gets you far enough…but also you could combine that with dumping Richards and/or Royce and it might…

Ok if you waive and stretch Beal then we can aggregate salaries and access to sign and trade.Split T wrote: ↑Sun Jul 06, 2025 8:23 pmSo you want to buyout Beal and then stretch Grayson? Plus we wouldn’t have Beal or Grayson…that somehow is a worse idea than waiving and stretching Beal.
