Those are the kinds of moves we made in the late 90s/early 00s and 2010s. Band-aid type of moves that leave you in purgatory as a 35-45 win team that's not bad enough to lose and not good enough to win.

I'm the first guy to support tearing this team down and doing a full rebuild. But we are in a bit of a unique situation in that we don't own any of our own picks until 2032. This means that the standard strategy of "tank and suck and you'll get good lottery picks so you can rebuild in a few years" won't work as well for us. In fact, it will make zero difference if we go 18-64 or 64-18 in terms of what draft pick positions we get, since our picks are so heavily leveraged and swapped and outright gone.

So if we aren't going to re-acquire any of our own draft picks, then I would say that it is fine for them to try to be good and competitive, even if they most likely cannot become a contender. Going 41-41 won't hurt us, it'll only hurt the other teams who already have our draft picks for the next six years.

I want to be clear: Being mediocre is NOT what I want or recommend for the Suns to do. I want them to trade KD for youngs and picks, especially if we can get our own picks back from Houston. I even support a Booker trade (if he wanted it) but realize that won't happen. My point is just that tanking WITHOUT getting our own picks back yields no benefit and therefore there's no point in doing that. We don't have to suffer being the worst team in the West for zero reward.

- keep Book and KD
- buy out and stretch Beal
- trade Royce O'Neale for Lonzo Ball
- sign Jonathan Kuminga to a RFA contract
- draft a center (Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton) at #29 this summer
- FA targets: Precious Achiuwa, Alec Burks, Guerschon Yabusele, Sandro Mamukelashvili

It’s time for a new era of suns basketball and to wipe the slate clean with a new roster and coach. Our best asset is a peaked sg that’s proven he can’t get us over the hump or wants to be a leader. The big two have already went through 3 coaches…. That should tell us all we need to know. Ishbia talked about identity…. As long as those two are on the team, we identify as a rudderless ship.

I don’t think the star loaded teams are the way to do it anymore. The talent level across the board is so high that everyone has high level talent. You need to build a team that is deep(and by that I mostly mean 3-7), the suns rosters with Book/KD fell off a cliff talent wise. You also need an identity and to stick with it.

OKC has SGA who is a top talent, but that team is elite because they’ve got 10 guys who could start. They also all play defense and harass the hell out of the other team.

Indy has a really solid top 7 across the board. They also play together and push the issue constantly on offense. They run like crazy and don’t turn it over.

Neither of these teams are built on the backs of multiple stars.
