A couple observations after watching the postgame interviews: Glad to see the locker room so somber after that loss. Much more appropriate response than what we would have seen last season. And secondly, Brooks is going to get fined for his ref comments.
How do you guys feel about that play when the dude did the 360? Should Suns have stopped play or did they do the right thing to quickly inbound the ball and try to take advantage of the mismatch. Is that going too far and is it unsportsmanlike? Either way, I think the Suns players were right in that the ref shouldn't have then just stopped the game on the other end of the court just because the opposing coach ran out onto the court.
Speaking of 360s, do you remember when Jason Kidd turned his career around 360° when he was traded here?

Reffing is an issue every single year. The refs let their own emotions take over and it affects the outcome of games.
Shel (n anyone else), why does it always, to me, feel like it is always the NBA that has the most questionable and sometimes game-changing officiating?
Cuz in the other two sports that I follow (baseball and football), I just feel like the officiating/umpiring doesn't seem to quite have the same effect.
I think all the leagues have issues. NFL's officiating is right up there as well.

Brooks had some painful moments in the 4th as well. He's gotta chill with the 4th quarter Ts.

IMO basketball is much harder to officiate than those two sports. Those two have lots of natural stops in play; they spend more time "paused" than "live". Basketball is almost entirely live play, closer to soccer. So the refs don't get much time to catch up and assess the current just-completed play. More stuff is missed or has to be ignored.

I'll also add that I think refs have so much more interaction with players that it will naturally affect how they call the games and certain players. There's much more of a human element involved in basketball with players and coaches lobbying and arguing their points, even talking (yelling) to refs while plays are live. Those things shouldn't affect how refs call the game but it does. Plus I think basketball refs are just as prone to fatigue and being irritable due to all the travel involved and x amount of games per week.
That's not to excuse the refs for being assholes or calling fouls or techs because they're pissed off or annoyed, just pointing out how different it is than something like football.

In games like this I think the need for other ballhandlers and initiators is especially prominent. Having Green would help a lot, or playing Gillespie more and running the offense through him rather than wearing out Booker playing "Point Book."
Enter Jamaree Bouyea, a 26 year old 6'2" PG. He has already played for 5 teams, but didn't get enough minutes to learn anything from the stats. He isn't the guard we want, but he is the guard that Ishbia deserves.

Good point about initiators/bringing the ball up court. We have been doing it with others but why all of a sudden was it Book every time. I think we need to stick with the "others."

I don’t have a problem with the refs stopping the play for an injury if they do it right away, but they let the suns come all the way down the court and start running a possession before anything happened…I don’t know exactly what you should do there and I’m curious what the rule book says. Rissacher was on the baseline and out of the play so I don’t really think there was a risk of further injury, but it was a dangerous enough fall that I think stopping the play immediately would have been the right move…just kinda tricky and unfortunate the refs let the play play out for so long…that alone should’ve given some leeway to the suns players, but then I’m not exactly sure what Brooks did to get a tech as my feed froze.

After the crazy fall, the Suns quickly inbounded and had a 5 on 4 break. I wouldn't have had a problem with the officials immediately stopping play after the fall, but they let the teams play on until Snyder ran onto the court. Book and Brooks contested that, and Brooks got T'd up over it.
In my opinion, the Hawks should have fouled to stop play, especially since they were down like 20 anyways at that point. No excuses for us, we should have won, but I did think we lost focus and it seemed to refocus them after the play.

Both things can be true. We gave up 47 points in the 4th and also our offense failed to score on at least 8 or 9 straight possessions…we lost because both the offense and defense disappeared at the end.

Bears mentioning that we are missing two starters. Grayson Allen and Jalen Green are both capable scorers who would have brought a lot to that game the other night. I bet we win it if either one of them plays. Atlanta was missing Trae Young, but there's some heavy Ewing Theory energy going on over there right now, so I'm not sure they are actually any worse without him.
