Around the League: August 2014
It's August! We can finally ditch that 100-page ATL July thread.
I don't have much to say, other than:

KNIBB HIGH FOOTBALL RULES!
“Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”

Just caught a replay recently. The same dumb jokes still kill me every time.

I thought that quote was a rip off of this one:

ON another note, Greg Monroe apparently has "little interest" in going back to the Pistons, who have talked to the Suns about a possible sign and trade.

Wojnarowski later says that Detroit has talked to Atlanta and Phoenix about Monroe, and that other teams have shown interest at times.

Did you catch Mason Plumlee making the USA team over Demarcus Cousins? I think you have actually been lucky to miss the Love-Cousins frontcourt. Your team was perimeter oriented anyway, the remaining pieces are still potent in the paint and you don't have to worry about post defense and rim protection anymore.

Horrifying injury. I feel so sad for him and for Pacer fans. This will probably scare top players away from Olympic play in the future.

I don't think so. One injury over the last 22 years of our best NBA players in International competition shouldn't scare anyone away. A severe injury like this could have just as easily happened in a Pacers training camp scrimmage. As many have said, the placement of the stanchion is at fault more than anything in this situation.Mori Chu wrote:Horrifying injury. I feel so sad for him and for Pacer fans. Re: Around the League: August 2014
Still. He would not have been injured if he hadn't played summer Olympic ball. Players and teams will remember that. To wit:

If a NBA player declines an opportunity to play in the 2016 Olympics citing George's injury as the primary reason for his decision I'll eat my hat.

most nba stars are already not participating in intl competition anyways. this will only accelerate that. it's going to be worse than dream team 2002 and 2004 for godfather colangelo.Mori Chu wrote:Still. Re: Around the League: August 2014
Overreactions, IMO. The issues in 2002 & 2004 had more to do with a lack of cohesion and teamwork than available and willing talent.SDC wrote:most nba stars are already not participating in intl competition anyways. this will only accelerate that. it's going to be worse than dream team 2002 and 2004 for godfather colangelo.Mori Chu wrote:Still. I don't think this is going to make that much of a difference. They play for country and it real helps your own brand image. It's an honor and I think they improve from doing it.

Yep, this is where change is going to happen. And photographers on the end lines are going to be moved back. A standard NBA stanchion and this doesn't happen.Cap wrote:Forbes: Paul George Injury: Why The Stanchions Were So Close, And How To Fix It.

I hate that they're trading him. I was looking forward to seeing him and LeBron play together. I would be livid if I were a Cavs fan.Superbone wrote:Andrew Wiggins Cavaliers jerseys ‘discontinued’ at NBA’s online store
