SUNS 2014: Free Agency
Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
So what makes everyone think Dragic is going to get traded? I don't understand how that makes any sense what so ever. I am not listening to sports radio though and haven't seen that written up anywhere other than on this site [ and the early on discussions for Love which were 'dismissed' by the Suns ]
So what am I missing - why would we trade Dragic now exactly?

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
The concern is his value may never be higher, he's on a smokin' deal, and that the Suns don't want to pay him what he's actual worth after the season is over when he opts out of his cheap deal.Robot wrote:

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
I would trust Ray Ray as indicating something real. That board has a long history of leaking Suns info.
What could possibly make the Suns want to move Dragic? McD is no fool, so I would rule out a sign and trade with Miami. I also cannot see why the Suns would move Dragic if they got LeB except if they also needed get Love. So, possibility 1 is a trade centered on Love for Dragic, although I cannot see it going down. I cannot see Dragic resigning in Minny.
If the Suns lost out on Bron, the Suns would want to make an upgrade at the forward positions assuming that they would need to make a move. Only a contender would be a trade partner because Dragic needs to be resigned next year. Amongst those teams, most have elite PGs. Hence, I come back to Indiana. Now, assume again that McD is no fool and knows he can sign Lance outright and that Hibbert is not worth Dragic. By that logic, possibility 2 is Dragic and the Morris twins plus a pick or two for Paul George. Tell me that Indiana would not listen...especially as Indy will have multiple holes to fill.

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
So this all works off the assumption that there is no way the Suns would pay Dragic 'what he is worth' because his actual court value is not what it appeared to be last year and he is actually only worth what he is making now?
So the perception is that McD and the Suns think Dragic is overrated and only worth his current contract?

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
Pretty spot on here. If McD decides that Bledsoe is his PG and he gets near max/max money, I can't see them flopping out a similar deal for Dragic and putting so much money in the back court.carey wrote:The concern is his value may never be higher, he's on a smokin' deal, and that the Suns don't want to pay him what he's actual worth after the season is over when he opts out of his cheap deal.Robot wrote:

Love, Hurts.
Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
So basically - Dragic is a few years older and thus is more expendable… what about Bledsoe's health history though? Seems like a concern. I guess they are basically blowing up what started last year -- I guess that is what I would be most surprised by. It was such a big deal and Dragic really played extraordinary even when Bled was outTheOriginalOriginal wrote:Pretty spot on here. Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
Do you think that Dragic and Bledsoe is a 30 million dollar back court? I do not, but I believe it will take close to that to keep it intact.Robot wrote:So this all works off the assumption that there is no way the Suns would pay Dragic 'what he is worth' because his actual court value is not what it appeared to be last year and he is actually only worth what he is making now?

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
Mmmm, no. I think Dragic is underrated. I think the Suns see the writing on the wall and it's going to take $12M-$15M a year to keep him and don't want to pay him that.Robot wrote:So this all works off the assumption that there is no way the Suns would pay Dragic 'what he is worth' because his actual court value is not what it appeared to be last year and he is actually only worth what he is making now?

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
I think this upcoming season will show once again that Dragic is the better player. Keep em both for now and after resigning Dragic trade away Bledsoe.
If Bledsoe breaks out and shows a lot more than last season then you can reconsider.

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
I guess that people didn't get my point. McD would not trade Dragic unless he were trading FOR an even better player, especially since he'll maintain his level of play for the next few years. I do not buy the salary argument, since Bledsoe is also a tradeable asset in S&T. If you're so concerned, keep the better player (Dragic) and trade the other one.
Also note that the Suns have many, many B+ assets. It just makes much more sense to package them together for an even better player along with Dragic.
So, if Dragic WERE to be traded, the Suns would receive an even better player in return.

No. Dragic is the real deal. Some think the Suns will be unwilling to pay their starting backcourt two max/near-max contracts.Robot wrote:So this all works off the assumption that there is no way the Suns would pay Dragic 'what he is worth' because his actual court value is not what it appeared to be last year and he is actually only worth what he is making now?

Frankly, I'm sick of all the Dragic trade talk here. You don't mess with my dude. I'm planning on him being here for the long haul. He's in his absolute prime right now.

If one has to go, I choose Bledsoe. Better yet, play the year out and then decide if you don't want to pay both. Let's see if Bleds can play a full season.

Re: SUNS 2014: Free Agency
Pse. At the rate contracts are growing keeping Bledsoe and Goran for 30M combined is looking less and less crazy. That's infinitely better in marginal terms than using the same amount on 4 fringe MLE role players. Granted, you can always go back to no spending at all and just using the draft until you strike gold, but that hardly guarantees you anything either.
