I really like this deal. We had talked about Payton as a possible target to acquire. He has significant flaws in his game (SHOOTING), but we is no worse than our current weak PG crop, and we give up essentially nothing to grab him. We get a few months to try him out and see if we like him, and we get an inside track at signing him if we do like the fit. Small move, but great job!

Not sure this is the best place, but https://www.prosportstransactions.com/b ... e/Suns.htm says it isn't expected to transfer this year. Am I missing something?

I remember laughing at some when his name was brought up who said just because of his hair alone they wouldn't want him in a Suns jersey  . I think he's solid and I would just like to see the team functioning with someone who can get in the paint and hit the open guy which he is more than capable of from what I've seen. what we do in the summer is a while away so will not worry myself about that as yet

Love it. Basically a free look at a promising young point guard. Point guards take a while to figure it out, but he's shown a lot of upside. We can still draft Young/Doncic without hesitation if that's the direction we want to go.

I've seen some skepticism about his fit with booker, and some of it is fair, but he has a lot of defensive upside.

Watching the last few games it struck me how much our PG situation is hurting the development of all our young bigs and swingmen. Ulis can't run pick and roll/pop effectively and none of our PGs are extracting the best out of the #timeline crew. Even if it's just a 30 game trial, this will have a big impact.

This about sums it up. Nice to see us make minor moves that make sense.

As for his shooting concerns, we already have those, and Payton should be a better all around payer than our other options.

He can't be a worse shooter than ulis. He's averaging 13/6/4 and shooting .53/.37/.63

So, we picked up both Daniels and Payton for essentially nothing. For the privilege of paying and plying them, which is more than other teams want to do.

Couldn't agree more about our PGs hurting our overall growth. That's why I wouldn't be mad to get a veteran PG in here this summer.

I'd rather not have him. I worry he will lead us to win some games that we otherwise wouldn't this year, and at this point the ultimate goal is Ayton or Doncic.

That hair is so damn ridiculous.

Just watching those highlights made me want to hold him down and shave his head. It is just flopping around. It is going to drive me insane.

I think if we continue to run the Bender/Chriss starting combo that we won't have much to worry about in terms of losses.

I would expect both to play a lot better with a real PG running the offense.

He wasn't exactly helping Orlando win games. He's a PG that can run an offense and will prevent disasters like last night from happening when Booker is out and our young guys can't create any offense. Player development is the most important thing and i think having a real PG is crucial.

Payton is starting for a team that has won 17 game in the East. He's not going to magically turn our mess into a sports movie comeback feel good story where the skinny shy white kid and the troubled black kid hug it out and find new purpose and meaning in being a team against all odds. If he was that good, the Magic would be better and he would have cost more than a 2nd rounder.
