Depends on where the pick ends up, but probably not. I’d rather have Ayton or Doncic, who are a lot cheaper than Kawhi and probably fit the timeline better.specialsauce wrote:With more reported disconnect between the Spurs and Kawhi would you offer our first round pick + Warren + Chriss for Kawhi?

It won't be the end of the world if the Suns fall to 6. There is some tremendous talent available, but I am irrationally confident that the Suns finally win the lottery this year. I want to see this group grow and compete before the off-season.

Assuming health checks out, I'd take Kawhi. Proven, 2 way superstar, absolutely fits the timeline. You don't pass on a chance to land a top 5 NBA player.Cap wrote:Depends on where the pick ends up, but probably not. A suns fan would say that. A fan of a team that has consistently settled for mediocrity. Takes pride in how many years they’ve made the playoffs instead of being angry at an organization that has consistently been okay with sixth place. I want to win a championship. I’m sick and tired of “plenty of good talent left.” I want the talent that the rest of the league is hoping to acquire.
Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
This is what I was thinking about. I would start by offering Warren/Chriss/Chandler/both Miami picks and if push came to shove, our own second rounder or the Milwaukee pick for Leonard and Pau (who has one more year than Chandler).specialsauce wrote:With more reported disconnect between the Spurs and Kawhi would you offer our first round pick + Warren + Chriss for Kawhi?

If we’re serious about acquiring him, the conversation starts with our own top 5 pick this year. And I would absolutely give it up. He’s only 26. He is the ceiling that we could only hope Ayton or Doncic or anybody else in the top 5 to grow into, which is definitely not a guarantee. He is easily a top 5 player in this league and would immediately bolster our team on both sides of the ball.
I would trade Warren, Chriss and our pick for him. I’d resign Payton and try and sign trade the Miami pick + Milwaukee pick + second rounder + Chandler for Kevin Love .
Booker - Leonard - Love would be a great trio.

i want to know what the true nature of his problem with the spurs is before i'd give up anything for him
Pop can be crusty, but he and the spurs have had one of the best reputations in the league for a long time

I'd take a swing at acquiring Leonard. He's a unique kind of talent when he's healthy.
Aaron Gordon is a very average PF in pretty much every respect. I'm not interested unless he can be acquired for a relatively cheap contract (maybe equivalent to TJ Warren).

He leads the NCAA in assists with really no other scorers on his team. His head is up, he reads the floor, and he is always ready to pass. Not just Westbrook type dive and dish plays, but full court passes, dump offs under the hoop, passing out of double teams on the perimeter.carey wrote:I still don't know enough about him other than he's an exceptional volume scorer. I don't think he'll score 28 a game in the NBA, but I do think his passing will continue to be great. He might be an 18/10 guy on 46% shooting overall with 42% from 3.

I've been part of teams and coached teams that have won championships and others that have fallen close to championships. There is nothing better than winning a championship and it sucks when you fall so close, but it's soul sucking to lose all the time and/or get blown out. It certainly makes you want to work hard and fix your weaknesses.
All I'm saying is that in this particular draft, there is a number of players that would will be all-stars and in any other draft would be hands down #1 picks. I want the Suns to win the lottery more than anyone, so they can pick the best player, but also so that their position is most coveted. I want the Suns to not only win the title, but to be so overwhelmingly dominate to create a long dynastic period of rule with far superior players to make these so called marquee franchises our b!tches for decades.
I want to have the best players, the best front office, the best coaching staff, the best trainers, the best owner(s), best arena, and best fans.

How many playoffs have we participated in since our genius owner did not give Amare the $100 Mil? What alternatives were available when we didn't? How much have you enjoyed watching Phoenix Suns basketball since his departure. If you think it has been great so be it. If you think it would have been worse if we would have given him the $100 mil so be it, your choice not mine. How would our future have been hurt if we would have given him $100 Mil. Sarver spent that money, just on a bunch of pitiful replacements.
I would conisder Kawhi but I quite frankly would like to see where our first draft pick falls. With his recent medical history is he still a top 5 player? I want to know more about his injury. If we are able to draft someone like Doncic or Ayton I would prefer one of them. Both of those guys appear to have top 5 written on their foreheads. If I am correct Doncic and Ayton were not available when Sarver did not sign Amare. If I am also correct Steve Nash was still on our roster along with some other capable pieces when Amare departed.
I would consider Love if we can get him for crumbs. He has only been a winner next to Lebron. Lebron does not and will not play in Phoenix. Cleveland may want to dump him and if that is the case, oh well. Would he be willing to report to this franchise?
If we can acquire one of them for Chriss and it will not cost us a chance at Doncic or Ayton, I might be convinced.
I will not lose any sleep at all if we do not acquire either of those guys. Especially for what they could potentially cost.
All it would have cost to keep Amare was money. To acquire either Kawai or Love it will cost some valuable assets that could be better than either of those players.
No I am not excited, based on our current roster and assets.
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.

the "prize" for me, in basketball or any aspect of life is to be happy
in basketball, winning makes me happy, but it's not the only thing
rooting for players i like is a big part
hated Kobe because he was selfish, loved Magic & Nash because they were the opposite
loved most Suns teams, even when they were losing
and it all connects
remember the dissension caused by bad seeds
-- the twins? -- Horry and Cassel?
didn't want Lonzo and his father, or flat-earth Kyrie
don't want Leonard if he's a problem child
i'll never apologize for having my priorities in order and keeping my eye on the prize
i've still got a lot of work to do, but i am a happy man

I think the reasoning is that if we'd kept Amar’e, we wouldn’t have picked up crap like Child and Turkey. Of course, in an ideal world, we'd have traded Amar’e, and not used the cap room on crap.
Kind of like, in hindsight, it would have been better not to trade Nash. As it turns out, what we have to show for that trade is Brandon Knight, and we’d be better off with nothing to show for it than with Knight. But in an ideal world, we’d have traded Nash, and then kept the pick instead of trading it for BK.
