2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
It's important to manage expectations and accept that the most likely outcome is that we do not end up with the #1 pick, even if we have the worst record at the end of the season. A #2 or #3 pick will still be a great chance to build our young team.
Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
I could be wrong, but the worst team has picked 1st the last 3 years, so I don't expect the worst team to pick first this year.

Ending up third would be disappointing to me if it means missing out on Ayton and Doncic. Ending up 4th would be devastating for the trajectory of this franchise.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:It's important to manage expectations and accept that the most likely outcome is that we do not end up with the #1 pick, even if we have the worst record at the end of the season. Or that picking JJJ makes me sick? Hell, I've seen the Cavs, Celtics, and even Nuggets rise to 1 or 2 more often.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I swear that I'm not superstitious but I do this thing every day where I run the Tankathon simulation until the Suns get the #1 pick and leave the tab open. Sometimes multiple times a day.

Thank goodness I'm not going to Secaucus for the draft lottery.Superbone wrote:You suuuuuucccckkk!In2ition wrote:I just did tankathon sim 20 times. You just gotta remember that the draft is unpredictable. Sure, Doncic and Ayton look like the biggest stars but people are wrong all the time. No one thought Mitchell was going to be the best player in last year's draft. Booker, Giannis, Kawhi, Butler, PG-13, Lillard, Jokic, Curry, Klay, Draymond, Derozan. All guys taken outside the top 5.specialsauce wrote:Ending up third would be disappointing to me if it means missing out on Ayton and Doncic. Who knows, maybe we draft zhaire Smith at 16 and he becomes the best player in the draft.

I mean, that’s just something fans say that don’t win the lottery to keep hope. The chances of us getting a star at 15 are so much lower than #1 or #2. There’s just so much to like about those two that there’s no way they don’t pan out, health allowing. This ain’t Anthony Bennett.Split T wrote:You just gotta remember that the draft is unpredictable. Sure, maybe we get another Booker at the 15th pick this year. I’d rather not hope for a miracle.

We also still have a guaranteed top 4 pick. That's mostly what I meant. It's not the end of the world if we land 3 or 4. Just in the last 4 years, Tatum, Jackson, Porzingis, and Embiid have gone in the 3/4 slots. And this year is supposedly deeper than most with star talent.specialsauce wrote:I mean, that’s just something fans say that don’t win the lottery to keep hope. Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
Sure but I don’t look at it in a vacuum like that. Last year Fultz, Jackson, Ball, Fox all had good production in college. Then you saw Isaac get drafted on potential and I think that is a similar drop in tiers this year with Ayton, Doncic, Bagley all being extremely productive. If you go Bamba or JJJ at 4 that is a huge drop off in proven production to me. At that point you’re drafting potential and that’s where it becomes incredibly hit or miss
Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
That makes sense. Those guys are safer stars. My main point is that we still don't know and I'm not going to make any final conclusions until we see what we have on the court. So while dropping to 4th might end up drastically altering the course of the franchise, that's not a guarantee.
Extremely productive college guys still manage to be poor NBA players (okafor, Beasley) and college projects still develop into stars (Westbrook, Paul George)

Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
Not good news for the bucks pick right now. Wizards losing late to Atlanta and heat down big to Knicks.
Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
In good news, the Hawks won which essentially puts them out of reach as we'd have to win out to catch them. Also grizzlies have a slight lead on Kings. A win there and we pretty much clinch #1 spot overall.

Grizz now trail 85-76 with five minutes to play.Split T wrote:In good news, the Hawks won which essentially puts them out of reach as we'd have to win out to catch them. Also grizzlies have a slight lead on Kings. A win there and we pretty much clinch #1 spot overall.

Re: 2018 Phoenix Suns Pick Watch
Okafor averaged a double double his first 5 years in the league. I’ll give you Beasley. Sure, can’t be 100% on everyone. But common things are common. I will be much, much more positive on the Suns future holding the first or second pick than I’ll be with the fourth pick. If we get the fourth pick then who fucking knows.Split T wrote:That makes sense. Those guys are safer stars. The past shows that more likely than not we’ll end up disappointed with whatever project we get in the end and there will be 4 players we wished we took instead because hindsight is a motherfucker.
Odds are that won’t be the case with the first two picks. I

I was talking jahlil not emeka. Let's just hope we get a top 2 pick and don't have to worry about it.
