Suns Coach 2018-19

Discussion of the league and of our favorite team.

So who do you want to see as a coach in 2018-19 (and beyond)?

Grass isn't always greener: Triano--What more could you ask with the group of guys we had this year and the development we have seen?

How much of an improvement does he really offer above Triano? If it is a lateral move, would it make more sense to push for consistency?
I believe he is a lot better. Triano offers consistency--but that's the problem. We need something different. Kokozkov's project this year has been Rubio. Have you watched him play lately. He has one of the worst three point shooters in NBA history at 35%. Imagine what that kind of player development could do for JJ and TJ.

I like the idea of Kokoskov but I would still be worried about our defense. Igor is known for offense and not defense as far as I understand and we need to get better defensively in the worst way.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Could that be a result of his concentrated role in Utah? Sure, he's done well, but is it possible he wouldn't be able to do the same in Phoenix if he also has to manage all head coaching duties?

This team was last in offense and defense. Just getting good on one end would be a nice step forward.

Exactly. We all know by now what Hornacek did for Kyle Korver. He still couldn't teach Goodwin to shoot wile fulfilling HC duties.
Go Suns!

No one was going to teach Goodwin to shoot even if they ate and slept with him 24/7. Its a fair question to ask whether Kokoskov's greatest effectiveness would be as an assistant rather than HC. But he has done well in a limited way as a HC on that Slovenian team last summer.

If you cannot hire the best, hire someone who can become the best. That is Kokoskov IMO. Its like when Atlanta hire Bud.

Jacques Vaughn was hired from the “best” and look how he turned out...

One fear about Kokoskov is that when Lindsay Hunter was made Suns coach, Kokoskov as his lead assistant basically ran the team but without good results.

Ya, but was anyone going to have success with that roster?

I just have a hard time getting excited about Kokoskov. He was here when we were really terrible. He wasn't the head coach, but he was a part of that team. If he were so great, why was our team so dreadful? I'm glad he's doing better in Utah, but we already had him here and got a good long look at him and didn't try to keep him as our HC. Why should we do so now?

Thats why I have a hard time as seeing him as anything but a lateral move from Triano, and if you remember, Booker and Len have mentioned all of the coaching turnover the team has had the last 5 years. Not saying we should hire Triano, but its hard to make the case that either of them have demonstrated getting more out of a roster like ours.

Yeah...Michael Beasiley was the 2nd best player of that roster.

I don't think experience is that big of a plus. We just need a talented coach. He needs to be a tactician, creative, open-minded, a good communicator, and work well with the players and management.

He was here 5 years, we were only terrible the last one and that's got a lot to do with blanks and babby. He was here when we went to the WCF and lost to the Lakers on that ridiculous Kobe airball.

The Suns Kokoskov era and the Gentry era are the same. We didn't keep him because blanks and babby were idiots and made an absolute mess and McD came in and cleaned house. Don't blame Kokoskov for blanks, babby and Hunter.

I'm hoping for Kokoskov.

He might have been doing most of the work, but when you have that piece of work as the head coach, there is no way you can really evaluate.

Budz says he wants the Knicks job because he's "sick of losing". ATL is probably going the tank route which is why he wants out. He met with us because we're trying to win games. NY is his top choice (?) and he wants to live in NY. Again, without knowing all of the details, sounds like he was ours to lose and we let him go. If Budz goes to NY, there's still the Orlando job, Charlotte and maybe Milwaukee for a guy like Fiz to choose from. Not that I'm convinced he's really that great.
