“I personally hoped they would hire Triano,” center Alex Len said in a text to azcentral sports. “I loved playing for Jay and I think he would have more success if he had a little bit better roster. But about Igor, all I heard is only great things about him as a person and coach. I think he will be a great fit and hopefully will be able to turn around this franchise.”

Oh man, if only they had known sooner that Len wants Triano. Now Kokoskov is already signed.UglyTruth wrote:Alex Len’s reaction to Kokoskov being hired as new Suns HC:

Can we talk about Kokoskov's wife for a second?

It was about 4:30 when you asked. Re: Suns hire Igor Kokoskov as new head coach.
For me he checks all the boxes....good player development guy, legit basketball coach/Xs and Os guy, knows the org/Sarver so he knows what he's getting into (kinda), and he's got head coaching experience even if it's overseas. He seems like a player's coach but won't be a pushover or cheerleader like W****n.
I certainly didn't fawn over W****n, was one of his biggest detractors. I liked Hornacek but never felt like his distinguished himself as an assistant. Igor's made the rounds, has always had good buzz around him and has coached in multiple orgs. This is different than W****n/Hornacek. I just hope he has a chance to grow with the team and we don't overachieve in years 1 or 2 and then fire him in year 3 if there's a setback. I'm curious to see who he'll add to his bench.
I had no issues with Triano. He was put in a tough position and did the best he could. There was a noticeable change in our team, we just didn't have a lot of talent.

There seemed to be a notable change on morale, and for a time even effort. But I don't remember seeing anything that resembled a consistent approach to playing good basketball. It could be that you just don't have time during the season to work on too many new schemes (on offense or defense).ShelC wrote:For me he checks all the boxes....good player development guy, legit basketball coach/Xs and Os guy, knows the org/Sarver so he knows what he's getting into (kinda), and he's got head coaching experience even if it's overseas. Now for that free agency splash after we draft #1.
I know it’s already taken, but in this era of remakes and nostalgia, I will try Coach K, easy, short and hopefully a good Omen. If the confusion remains after a few weeks, will go for Coach Kov.
Iggy K?
KokGor? Wait, not this one.
IKo (pronounced like icko)?
Coach Kov?

From top of my mind, she starred on some movie about archeologists finding alienish gorillas, with her and only her capable of save them... “Congo” if I recalled it right.Cap wrote:Koko isn't a movie character, she's an actual real-life gorilla. Can't expect consistency from a roster this young, especially with this much turnover.Indy wrote:There seemed to be a notable change on morale, and for a time even effort. In his first 40ish games, we won 41% and were slowly adding plays on offense and learning our rotations on defense. Then the injuries and tanking set in and we stopped winning, but Josh and the G-leaguers (and maybe Bender/Chriss) kept growing and getting better.
I don't think you can ask for more than that in this situation.

I'm very happy we got Iggy Kok. He was one of my top 3 choices with Bud and Triano.

In case anybody is not sure of pronunciation:
Kokoskov (kuh-KOS-kov)
As far as nicknames, I like Coach K but it's already taken. KoKo is too animal-like as others have said. I guess I'd have to go with Kos or Kov.

The name Igor Kokoskov makes him sound like he’s a person that’s pretty large in stature (like a big Russian bodyguard or something) but the man actually looks like an innocent average person.
