Before any of you freak out over the Suns news from HoopsHype today please remember that it is HoopsHype & they bullshit for a living.
Going forward, can we put a link in these posts to the article in question? Unless it's forbidden, it just makes it harder to find.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

It’s not forbidden, but when you’re telling people that a story is a non-story, linking to the non-story you want them to ignore might seem kinda pointless.

If you don’t know what he’s talking about, you don’t really need to. It’s a non-story.

LOL. It is a chicken and egg issue, is it not? It forced me to google hoopshype and drive even more traffic to that silly "non-story".

Before reading anything the page, I saw the gif and thought for sure the conversation was going to be about Bryan Colangelo. Dude has nice collars.

My dream scenario...

Trade #1:

Suns get: JR Smith, #3 pick, #8 pick
Hawks get: Brandon Knight, #1 pick, #31 pick, #59 pick
Cleveland gets: Dennis Schroeder, Marquese Chriss, #16 pick

Trade #2

Phoenix gets: Kenneth Faried, #14 pick
Denver gets: Alan Williams, Davon Reed, Tyler Ulis

Trade #3

Phoenix gets: #4 pick, Chandler Parsons
Memphis gets: #8 pick, Jared Dudley, JR Smith, Milwaukee pick

Draft Doncic at #3, Jaren Jackson Jr. at #4, and at #14 I would decide among Lonnie Walker Jr./Zhaire Smith/Aaron Holiday.

Interesting trade scenario. I'm not totally against JJJ, but not totally sold on him either. Let me see, the Suns trade Knight, #1, #16, #31, #59, Milwaukee's pick, Chriss, Big Sauce, Reed, Ulis and Dudley for Doncic, JJJ, one of these guards, JR Smith, Faried, and Parsons.

Pre Free Agency roster:
Doncic / Holiday / Harrison
Booker / Smith
Warren / Jackson / Parsons
Faried / Bender
JJJ / Chandler

I'm guessing from this that the Suns wouldn't have any money left for FA, right? Interesting...

Ainge certainly set the stage for trading a #1 pick last year. I would do the deal if I could be assured Doncic would fall and we could also get #4. If Doncic slides don't you figure JJJ would go #2? We'd then pick either Bagley or Carter. If we also come back in at #14 I would give MPJ a good long look.

Also re: that line-up, you are almost forced to start Josh Jackson with Doncic because he will have to guard the opposing PG. That's not something Warren can do.

JR Smith would be in Memphis.

I think Sacramento will go with Bagley.

Yeah, my projected line-up would be a little different from In2's:

Utility Guard: Zhaire Smith
Shooting Guard: Devin Booker
Small Forward: Josh Jackson
Point Forward: Luke Doncic
Center: Kenneth Faried

Warren would be my sixth man.

Question about free agency. We will probably have around 11/12 million in cap space assuming we release cap holds on Len/Payton. In order to get up to the 18 million number that has been mentioned, we'd need to waive the non guaranteed contracts of Ulis/Williams/Reed. Williams is the one whose contract matters as he's set to make 5ish million dollars.

So my question, if we need to use the 18 million to sign a FA, can we waive Williams and sign him later using the room exception? Does anyone understand how the room exception works? I saw this link and it seems like we could essentially give Alan Williams a 2/10 contract which is essentially what he has right now anyways.

RMLE is a contract created during the last CBA revision, looking to compesate teams under the cap for losing the MLE and biannual exceptions. You can use the RMLE contract after you spent your cap space, and said contract can have up to two years, starting at around $4.5M for 2018-19. Also, it can be broken down on more than one player.

From what I understand, what PHX would be doing with Sauce is not trading, buying out or stretching him, just waiving his non guaranteed contract. The one year restriction to resign a player operates under the first three scenarios, but not Sauce's, so PHX would be able to offer him the RMLE if Sauce waits until we have done our moves.

Maybe I'm just greedy and reluctant to give up on players. But I really hope they don't just let all those guys go. Especially Williams and Ulis, I think they have talent and can play in our rotation.

I don't want to give up Williams either but they made that contract non- guaranteed for a reason and in this scenario, they'd be resigning him. I'm fine losing Ulis, he's just too small and can't shoot.

I doubt they'd drop Williams this season.
He's popular with fans and teammates, and his mom his head of Phoenix PD.
He's also a local guy (North High) and has community appeal.
Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...
