Maybe a reason for that is because most of us here have seen Ayton play several times, and a 1-on-0 workout and softball interview isn't going get most of us worked up.

I'm pretty sure that day is not coming. He has already said that he isn't working out for any teams. He's still playing in Europe.AmareIsGod wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:05 pmI'm guessing if and when Doncic has his workout day with us, this post and others will have hundreds of comments. Just the vibe I'm getting. For Aytons workout and press conference today, we've had 10-15 total.

This is true. I just feel like this board has the least amount of Ayton excitement of anywhere. /r/suns on Reddit, ArizonaSports, Twitter, etc., has a lot of Ayton hype. We go against the norm it seems. Nothing wrong with that though.Superbone wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:39 pmI'm pretty sure that day is not coming. What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I feel exactly the same way. I just know we aren't going to get Doncic, and I'm already preemptively upset about it. I really hope Ayton ends up being the better player, I guess, because I know we aren't going to draft the guy I really want.
All I can do now is hold onto the slim hope that we concoct some kind of weird trade where we get the #3 or #4 pick and somehow also get Doncic to go along with Ayton. Now that would be exciting. But I doubt we can pull that off.

Most of us are a lot more familiar with Ayton at this point.AmareIsGod wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:05 pmI'm guessing if and when Doncic has his workout day with us, this post and others will have hundreds of comments. Yeah, I agree. He really looked great vs. the Herbalife Gran Canaria squad. Dominant competition.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 4:36 pmI feel exactly the same way. Though buried in my sarcasm, their roster does have 11 players that entered the NBA draft and went Undrafted. Plus 3 players that did get drafted, one being a former first round NBA pick (Anzejs Pasecniks, 2017, Round 1, Pick 25).
I can hate on the talent of his competition all I want but I'm sure most of the NCAA squads Ayton went against lacked NBA Draft picks for the majority of their roster as well. I just don't know how Gal Mekel, 2009 NBA Draft, Undrafted (so he's likely 30 years old on the Herbalife Gran Carnia squad) compares against NCAA PG talent.
I feel Doncic is a safer pick but has less potential to be great / lower ceiling.

I think picking Ayton is set in stone at this point. I'm Team Doncic, but I'm not upset about Ayton. Just because I think Doncic is a better prospect doesn't mean it's the case. What the hell do I know?
Re: With the FIRST pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns select...
One thing I like about Ayton is how well he fits with Bender. I know that's not a huge consideration here, but they could form a potent inside-outside frontcourt. Ayton also covers a lot of Bender's weaknesses (namely rebounding).

It will be interesting to see all these young players grow together. I just hope they add a quality veteran or two give the team some stability.

I’m on Team Undecided. Is that a team?
I’ve gone from slightly leaning Doncic to slightly leaning Ayton, but it’s still pretty close to a coin flip.

I feel the same as Marty. Really, really wanted Doncic.
Re: With the FIRST pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns select...
I just hope Doncic doesn't become the next Larry Bird if (when) we don't get him. I'd just pray not to have an Oden/Durant situation. Actually, I wouldn't mind if Doncic becomes the next Larry Bird as long as Ayton becomes the next Hakeem Olajuwon.

That's the best team to be on. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy on June 21st.

That would be the best outcome. That or Ayton becomes the next olajuwon and doncic is Toni kukoc.
I really really really hope we don't blow this pick. From all the hype today though I'm just slowly accepting the fact it's going to be Ayton and learning to like the pick.

Re: With the FIRST pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns select...
I certainly wouldn't compare Doncic to Bird - Bird was one of the best shooters ever, a good rebounder and a great passer at 6'9" 3/4 (and one of the fiercest competitors of his time). Doncic is a lot more of a 2/3, not in his class as a rebounder. Time will tell on his competitive fire and his leadership ability.
He has a very good chance to be better than Kukoc, but a fairly similar player in style.

Basically. I like Ayton, and he is VERY talented, but I am to the point that it upsets me that Doncic won't be a Sun. I think he is exactly what we need, and I think we can build a better team with him than with Ayton.JustWinBaby wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 11:48 pmWhat does that mean, please get to the point. Is he that good that you are going to be mad when we do not draft him #1?

I am pretty disappointed that it seems to be a foregone conclusion that we are drafting Ayton. And I don't think it is smart to show our hands so clearly.
