DeAndre Ayton:

But also, “You know, I hate being a big man, because I don’t like jump hooks. I don’t want to see a seven-footer do a jump hook so I don’t do them. I’m an entertainer, I like entertainment. I like to entertain myself.”

So he hates being a big man and prefers to be an entertainer....awesome! Can we give him that max contract on draft night itself please!!

I want a guy focused on basketball, not his brand. Ayton seems to want to be a personality and called himself an "entertainer" during the Puma signing. I don't want Amar'e or DHow looking to be a fashion star or movie producer. I want a guy with a singular focus on basketball and winning. I remember Harrison Barnes talking about his "brand" during his freshman year at UNC...that's an American/AAU thing. And I know Ayton is from the Bahamas and wants to follow a guy like Bolt. But Bolt wasn't Bolt until he was the best in the world. Embiid is funny and has a personality but backs it up. The more I see quotes from Ayton, the less I like him. I'm pretty sure we'll take him and will hope he's the gamechanger we need. Just don't like the chatter right now.
He also said something about how he hates America and how basketball felt like a job for him later on.

Does he realize that basketball is supposed to be a job? He’s getting paid millions to do that job.

It certainly feels like he’s a 14 year old in the body of a 7 footer.
I'd love to see these quotes you're talking about. I have not seen them.
Here you go...looks like UT was right.
I hate basketball, bruh. Yep, basketball is boring as fuck. Basketball is as fun as going to the dentist and the DMV, bro. Baskeball is the broccoli of sports, bruh. If I could go back, I would never have quit my dream of joining ISIS cuz I hate America, dawg. And you know what? I bet Paul Rudd isn’t even a nice guy in real life either.

He also talks about his love of burning the Steve Nash jerseys as well. I'm starting to think he might be a bad apple.

To me he just seems to be a little bit to enamoured with / focused on himself for my taste but I do of course hope I am wrong, again.
All of the top prospects sound like that. It comes with the territory.

Can you go ahead and find your quote about how he hates America while you're nailing him to your cross?
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

The quote just before the "I don't like jump hooks" was:
“There are a lot of versatile bigs, but I’m a different versatile big,” Ayton says. “The versatile bigs that are in the NBA, all the unicorns, they start outside in. I establish myself down low before I come out. That was just old school to me—that’s how they taught me how to play.”
But that sounds like a good quote. Nobody wants to hear a good quote prior to a bad one when selling home your point.

It doesn’t make the quote any less true? It’s a direct quote, not a paraphrase.

You can sell this point on Ayton being able to walk on water all you want but he has to prove it on the court.

The way people are making him out to be, he better put Wilt like numbers his rookie season itself right?

Right. Because he clearly hasn't proved it on the court as a freshman in the NCAA. Other than defensive numbers that aren't great for a big man, the offensive talent he showed means nill.

It feels like the conversation took a dark turn somewhere. It is possible to criticize a prospects basketball-related quote without “nailing him to a cross”.

The best part of this draft is that both players at the top of the draft board have a lot of potential

Again, I referenced Harrison Barnes, Amar'e and DHow. I'd love for him to Shaq or Embiid.

Here's the article about Ayton calling AAU basketball a job

Doesn't sound so bad to me in context. He'll have plenty of time to go to Disneyland in the summers.

It was around this time that Ayton began to feel like basketball was a job. Ayton came to realize that he never had the childhood that many of the kids he grew with. “I grew up and realized I never really had a childhood. It was just basketball and business. Never went to Disneyland or any of that. Kids used to tell me about it, and I’d have to lie and say, ‘Yeah, I went.’ But I never knew any of that,” Ayton said. He also added “Sometimes I’d go a month without talking to my mother. You’re [in the gym] going 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. It was like a job.”
Man, what a lazy SOB making statements about missing his mother and not having a childhood because he was in the gym all day. This guy is a head case! Avoid him at all costs!

It doesn’t work that way. We haven’t moved forward from the Brandon Knight trade, and that was what, three years ago? People who disagree with the picks can and will continue to express their disagreement until they change their minds or get bored of repeating themselves.

Didn't we revisit Joe Johnson's extension earlier this summer? Fans can forgive, but we never forget.
