Ryan out as GM
Re: Ryan out as GM
Two immediate thoughts:
1. Maybe he should have picked Doncic
2. Bryan Colangelo needs a job

Re: Ryan out as GM
Feels like a gut reaction to how bad we've looked without a pg. Sarver wants playoffs this year and we're clearly not a playoff team

Re: Ryan out as GM
Dude picked Len, bender, and chriss, who all suck, and trades up for chriss using a whole bunch of stuff no less... then offloads all of that (admittedly all wrapped up in Chriss) for for a 2nd round Pg?
Then trades up for bridges with that first round pick?
And where the hell’s our PG 10 days out. We even had Payton on our roster and could have had him as a fall back plan and he only cost $2m.
And let’s not even get into the dragic / IT fiasco.
He’s a no talent spotting, turn 3 assets into 2, chemistry killing, clown.
Good riddance.

I do wonder who wanted Ayton vs who wanted Doncic.

Re: Ryan out as GM
But if Sarver wants to sell tickets and have a fun, exciting team that runs and scores like the 7SOL Suns and current Warriors, Doncic could've been that guy. Now we got a Lambo with no one to drive it.

Re: Ryan out as GM
This very much sounds like a Sarver move. We've got a good thing going and he wants to knock off the Warriors this year instead of developing the team and waiting for the right opportunity to land an impact PG in a favorable way for us. He's probably mad we can't get Butler for a 2nd rounder or something ridiculous.

Re: Ryan out as GM
Both are monsters. The thing is that Dallas traded to get Doncic and it sounded like there were negotiations for the Suns to get him also. As someone said there are only two players on the team that are safe with Ayton being one. He should have given up most anything to get both. What a core to build around!Ring_Wanted wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:44 amDoes it really matter? Ayton is looking like a monster.

Re: Ryan out as GM
Which is why Sarver hires newbies with no experience on the cheap. And as bad as McD was, he can always point to Sarver in future interviews and say he caught a bum rap following orders and being handcuffed by his owner.
Re: Ryan out as GM
There was a rumor that sarver loved Doncic...hard to see that being the issue though as Ayton looks phenomenal right now.

Re: Ryan out as GM
Absolutely. If Doncic was possible while also getting Ayton and keeping Booker, you do it whatever it takes. But ATL wanted Young and I can't imagine DAL allowing us to draft Doncic even if we sent them say Jackson, MIA pick and other assets. Can't see MEM going for that package instead of JJ3 either.JJ Slim wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:48 amBoth are monsters. Re: Ryan out as GM
I agree that Booker/Ayton should be the only untouchable players, but I'm worried our new GM will be under orders to make a splash and every other GM will know. Feels like we could see something like Jackson/Warren/Okobo and 2 1sts for Kemba or a similar overpay just to put a 40 win team on the court.Ring_Wanted wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:41 amSounds good to me. Only Booker and Ayton are truly relevant NBA material. The rest is essentially question marks and fungible stuff, with only TJ and maybe Jackson (on a good day) registering a blip on the radar.
Re: Ryan out as GM
The real miss with De'Aaron Fox in 2016. He'd have solved our PG problems and we still could've traded for Bridges and signed Ariza.
Re: Ryan out as GM
Hell we should have sent picks too even 2019 or 2020 unprotected. Gutting the core and building around two rookies would have almost guaranteed a low pick for them but from our perspective we would have had guaranteed talent vs maybes.Ring_Wanted wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:52 amAbsolutely. Re: Ryan out as GM
It seems to be a really interesting mix across the league, with varied success for each type of GM. Players, coaches, agents, analytics.da_suns_fan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:36 amIm sure James Jones is a nice guy but I'm very much against former players as GMs.
I would think the skill set for playing basketball is drastically different than the skillset needed to be GM. That doesnt mean it cant happen (Danny Ainge), but usually it doesnt work out.
Re: Ryan out as GM
hahahahaha....Woj going in with no lube.
Good. We all know who the problem is here.
Re: Ryan out as GM
What a circus. The timing on it is awful. I just don't understand how anyone can be up for James Jones. His post playing career is just one year as vp for us.
There were quite a few of us that wanted to keep McD only because we knew if he gets canned he will be replaced with someone with zero experience. Now we get to watch a new GM fuck this team up with stupid trades as they try to learn the position.
Bender might have been the straw that broke the camels back.
