Of all the boneheaded moves Ryan did to deserve getting axed, this was the one that sent Sarver over the ledge? Just blows my mind.

The local media lets him off the hook way too easily, IMO.

Re: Ryan out as GM
Gambo and Burns were dumbfounded after the interview with Sarver and some of his answers.

As they should be. Maybe they'll finally call this BS for what it really is instead of being held hostage to save their insider access.

because sarver fired mcdo?OE32 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 3:50 pmDisagree. In my experience, fans underestimate the predictive value of preseason. One player can only do so much. These guys are trying to win.
I said before preseason I expected a 38+ win team. I've adjusted my expectations to the 26-win range - and that's very generous. Sarver and I are both pretty upset.
What is it about Portland???

booker hasnt won anything. and that's what they said too after suns signed dudley, barbosa and chandler.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 4:03 pmThe Arizona Cardinals were pretty good in preseason.OE32 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 3:50 pmDisagree. Also I think you underestimate just how important Booker is. Without him and without a PG, we have no one to get us into our offense.
I'm not expecting 38 wins without a PG, but we're not only winning 26 games. Booker/Ariza/Ayton is worth 26 wins by themselves.
Also, I think it's obvious a PG is coming after the firing of McD

Re: Ryan out as GM
Believe it or not, I agree. It's tough to put the pillars into place -- the superstars -- and the Suns have two already. It's easy to find the right role players to complement them and meld a team into place. And this was what Ryan was putting into place.Perception of the organization - Addresses Earl Watson getting fired 3 games into the season by saying that it reflects poorly on him and he needs to do better and turn-over isn't a good thing. He says that he isn't worried at all about filling the GM position because of how promising our young pieces have looked and there are only 30 jobs open in the NBA and people are going to want it, says that turnover isn't a good thing and he needs to do better.
Like most other folks here, I was like WTF for a few minutes and the timing of this makes total sense. McDonough was good for clearing the cap, getting rid of the dead wood, and putting a couple of pillars into place. He obviously has no idea what creates team chemistry and finding complementary pieces that fit. James Jones will be perfectly adequate for that.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Kokoskov didn't go over McDonough's head and demand a veteran PG. The Suns might end up getting fleeced on the deal but it would pay dividends in terms of player development. Just imagine JJ as a near All Star by the end of the year versus just another player whose development has been ruined by a lack of chemistry and floor generalship.
Can they get Nash to come back and play a season? Work his magic one more year? Pipe dreaming...

Re: Ryan out as GM
There isn't a PG in the world who can make that happen. I'm not trying to hate on JJ, but he has a long way to go in his own development to reach that level.virtual9mm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 7:17 pmJust imagine JJ as a near All Star by the end of the year versus just another player whose development has been ruined by a lack of chemistry and floor generalship.

Re: Ryan out as GM
i'm probably in the minority who thinks mcdo doesnt deserve to reap the benefits of The Process and wondering what took sarver so long... (because nobody wanted the job before the ayton draft?)
anyways, mcdo exacerbated the team's pg problems by getting rid of payton, ulis and knight. and the lack of a floor leader showed in the game against portland.

Re: Ryan out as GM
in hindsight, not giving up josh jackson for kyrie irving was a terrible mistake.
Re: Ryan out as GM
you can have both actually. the team wasnt ready to win last season, and kyrie was planning to shut himself down anyways.
Re: Ryan out as GM
Seems like a weird comment to make about my statement. I didn't say Booker would lead us to the playoffs. I said 26 wins. Never thought getting to 26 wins would constitute winning something.SDC wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 7:16 pmbooker hasnt won anything. and that's what they said too after suns signed dudley, barbosa and chandler.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 4:03 pmThe Arizona Cardinals were pretty good in preseason.OE32 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 3:50 pmDisagree. Re: Ryan out as GM
The trade involved would have included Jackson and the 2018 draft pick, so no Ayton or Jackson.

Re: Ryan out as GM
McDonough was awful, but Sarver is coming across like he hasn't got a clue. I'm with the majority in questioning the timing. It's hard for this to make much of a difference for me: we already made the stupid Mikal Bridges trade, we already blew all of the cap space on the ridiculous Ariza signing, and we took on Ryan Anderson's corpse. Firing McDonough doesn't change any of that.
Just around the corner is some abysmal trade giving up our (lotto) first round pick for Pat Beverly. More vomit to come.
