He’s the guy I really feel we missed on. I had him #3 in that draft after Simmons and Ingram. He was older, but was a real special player his senior year at Oklahoma. I’m not surprised he’s become a very good player. We showed zero interest in him though...pretty set on a pf that draft.
When you are a s*** team picking in the top 10, why would you ever draft "for need" instead of BPA? Especially two "for need" picks in the top 10 in the same draft...
I’m sure we didn’t see Booker and Hield being able to play with each other. Booker was coming off a promising rookie year, but he looked like a pure 2. Hield was older and had showed no real ability to play the 1 either. It was the wrong decision and I didn’t agree with it at the time, but I understood going for Bender over Hield. Turns out Bender was just evaluated incorrectly.
I understand what you are saying, but I think my question still stands. When you suck, why draft for need? Take the best player.
I agree. I think there is a place for drafting for need, but when you suck and don’t exactly know what you have yet. Just pick the best player.

This draft, for instance, could be a little tricky. Outside of Zion and Ja at the top...the next few prospects don’t really fit a need. Barrett, Reddish, Little, Culver, Hunter, Langford are the next guys being listed in this draft and they are all wings. We’re overloaded at the wing position, but if we scout one of those guys as clearly the best player. Just take him and figure out the fit with Bridges/Jackson/Booker later.

I'm afraid that's what's going to happen. The Suns fall somewhere 3-6 and end up with another wing. I'm not against taking one, but it creates just another problem.

Ya, I hope we land 1 obviously, but if we don’t, I really hope we trade down. I really really like Brandon Clarke.

Although I read a report this morning that said it’s possible Jarret Culver is still growing...that he’s closer to 6’10 than 6’5...his measurements are going to be real interesting. He becomes very intriguing if he’s 6’8/6’9

I saw this:

Also, that's super interesting about Culver. The Ringer had him at #2 behind Zion in their mock they put out this morning.

Yep, was on the ringers write up where I heard he might still be growing.

Clarke’s shot is very questionable right now, but he’s an elite athlete with elite defensive skills. He also shows good touch near the hoop and flashes good passing skills. At worst, he could be a very good defensive player who can cover for Ayton and help on the perimeter. If Ayton develops an outside shot like we hope, Clarke’s lack of shooting won’t be as big of a deal. If Clarke can be an average shooter, he’s possibly the perfect compliment to Ayton.

He could be the pick if the Suns fall, and the bonus(although not a reason you pick him or not pick him) is that he grew up in Phoenix and went to Desert Vista High School, so he's a local kid.
