I don't know what to think about Russell. He isn't the type of PG I prefer, as is well documented here on the site. I want more of a pass-first guard who plays good defense and can hopefully hit an open 3. But Russell is talented (an actual all-star in the East!), and he's tight with Booker, so the chemistry there might be good. I think what pushes me over the edge into the "no" category is the fact that we'd have to likely max him out. I don't think he is worth that kind of money. I'd much rather acquire somebody 80% as good for half the price.

Ya, that’s how I feel too. He’s to expensive to not be a great fit. Good player, so-so fit.

Rubio/Tyler Johnson/Okobo
Booker/Culver/Melton
Oubre/Bridges/Cheatham
Horford/Vonleh/Clarke
Ayton/Holmes/Bender

This is a team that should very much make the playoffs, imo. If it stays relatively healthy, there should be no excuses anymore. Balanced roster, tons of talent, no need to force minutes on the rookies, plenty of depth and vets. We've improved weakside defense next to Ayton, improved the ball handling and passing, improved the shooting and rebounding, improved the bench and improved the vet leaders

We're gonna end up drafting White or Hunter, re-signing Oubre and signing Collison.

Not what I'd prefer, but that's a fairly good/safe prediction.
Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...

When's the last time a team with a pass first PG that can sort of defend but can't shoot made any kind of noise in the playoffs. The '08 Celtics? The Jazz just got rolled. I know, I know... baby steps. First we need to make the playoffs. I hear everything you're saying. I just guarantee that you'll hate Rubio by the All-Star break.
Go Suns!

Just look at how clogged the paint got when Golden State passed it out to Green at the 3 point line. It was like they had 6 defenders on the court. We need to make things easier for Ayton and Booker to score. And Rubio would do that in transition... it would just kill us any time we had to get into the half court or we didn't have 4 three point shooters on the court with him.

You may be right, but we don't know what offense that Monty will roll out. Rubio may go back to pushing 10 assists a game and Booker could become even more efficient moving to less of the initiator and creator. Besides, Rubio is better than the team has had for years now. I guess we'll see what happens...

We can't even do that without finding takers (without taking salary back) for JJ or TJ or Tyler. Right? Don't we only have like 12-15M? I would expect our re-signing of Kelly to take nearly all of that.

Hasn't he said he sees Booker and Ayton as the guys with the ball in their hands the most? Not bringing the ball up the court, but once we set our offense?

I think they are holding off on signing Kelly until after the other FAs are signed, since they can go over the cap for Kelly, right?

Yea I think it's the order we do things that will allow for more capspace.

Either way, I think we're gonna be underwhelmed with the roster heading into next season.

Could this mean the Suns themselves have no clue because they have no scouting department?
No. It means there is a ton of uncertainty starting at 4 with New Orleans.
I'm with ya Jeremy...that's how it feels to me too ..like we're floundering without something obvious, so our master plan is another year of the damage of tanking and praying for a better lottery ball since Ja didn't fall into our laps...

I disagree with this. We’re not pinning all our hopes on the draft.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

It does kinda feel like we are building towards this.

I was with you until Horford. We’re not getting him as he won’t be made available to us.

No, signing Oubre has nothing to do with our cap space. We have $10.1M in space including Oubre's hold, Holmes' hold, and the hold for #6. If we trade the #6 before the draft that hold goes away (unless it's for a player then that hold is replaced by the salary of the player.) Anyway, we'll spend whatever space we have (or create*) then sign Oubre and then maybe sign Holmes. After which we'll be left with the room exception for teams that have spent all their space and are over the cap.

*This has been discussed here quite frequently in the trades to give up TJ, JJ and/or #6 in order to have space to chase Russel or some other FA.

I've said it before that I'm find with signing Collison and using TyJo for our big move at the trade deadline where his expiring will be extremely desirable. You can package that with the Mil 2020 or any of our own future picks to make a package for a significant player imho.
Go Suns!

I think you could very well be right. I like my pass first PGs that can shoot too. (We used to have a guy called Nash that was pretty good.)
