I get the impression that the Jones camp ran the draft last year, but maybe only at the last minute/last couple days. Maybe that was exactly what McD wanted to do and was trying to do. Never know I guess.

It was while it was happening though, things can change when he's giving a minute by minute report of what's going on.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
He's already refuted reports of the Suns targeting specific players. I'm pretty sure his insider source is the owner.Indy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:09 amIn the last regime, yeah. What has he shared (that other media folks didn't) since mcd is gone?iLLmatic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:09 amHe rarely gives bad info regarding insider info on the Suns.Indy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 6:44 amI get the feeling the new regime wants to have each media mouthpiece/insider telling a different story. I think that is good as long as you don't piss off your sources too much. Gambo seems like a guy desperate to have insider status, so you can probably f*** with him over and over and over and he will keep coming back for more.

Ya I remember reading that McD wanted SGA, Jones wanted Bridges and Sarver sides with Jones
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
This is correct. McD was going to trade the Mil pick and 16 to move up to draft SGA, but was vetoed by Sarver. The next thing we know it's Mia pick and 16 for Bridges. I'm not going to kill them on this move, as I like Bridges.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:38 amYa I remember reading that McD wanted SGA, Jones wanted Bridges and Sarver sides with Jones

Ya, I like Bridges too. I had Bridges and SGA 7 and 8 on my board last year. Essentially tied, but I gave the tie breaker to SGA because of position.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
I think we would be in a better position (both last year and years to come) if we had done the McD deal. Less expenditures, and a position of more need.
Oh, and this is coming form a guy that loves Bridges.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Yea SGA would've been a huge addition. Love Bridges, but the backcourt would pretty much be settled in my eyes.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Ya, agreed. Especially if the deal really was only the Mil pick and not the Miami pick. I’m not sure the Miami pick ends up a ton better than the Milwaukee pick(Mil pick will be 25-30) but the Miami pick could be anywhere and that makes it much more valuable.

Its gonna be a junk back up PG and a rookie in the draft.
At the four they'll pay 4-5 mil for a junk backup PF.
And they'll remain perennial losers.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
At this moment, in hindsight the Suns would be in a much better position if they made the following moves in the last 2 drafts.
1. Drafted Fox instead of Jackson in '18 draft. They would have still sucked the following season, but last yr and going forward the PG position would have looked decent.
2. Traded down to maybe 3 or even 4 and drafted Jaron Jackson, still traded up to get Bridges at 10 and then drafted Mitch Robinson with the 31st pick.
That's 4 starters surrounding Booker that are defensive studs. Who knows what pick the Suns would have had this year, but we wouldn't be wringing our hands over possible silly trades or positional holes to fill right now.

Yeah, but hindsight is 20/20--you can always better evaluate a draft choice after the fact. A different question would be "why didn't we select fox rather than Jackson, and what changes can we make this year to better evaluate potential talent?" The Suns answer to this question seems to be "fire the GM as well as almost all of the draft personnel (and potentially just rely on youtube/tivo/nbadraft.net)?In2ition wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 9:03 amAt this moment, in hindsight the Suns would be in a much better position if they made the following moves in the last 2 drafts.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
We didn’t draft Fox because we still had bledsoe(and Knight) and Jackson looked like a perfect fit alongside Booker.
Admittedly I was very high on Jackson and loved the pick(though I did slightly prefer Isaac) I thought he’d be a better playmaker and better defensively. Also his poor finishing at the rim has been surprising. I thought he’d be Igoudala.
I did like Fox too, he also had questions about his shot, but he’s answered that much better than Jackson. Fox is light years ahead of Jackson as a person and we should have factored that in more in the process.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Courtney Lee works straight up and is an ending contract. He'd give us some good depth at SG and a nice vet off the bench. TJ would do well in Dallas being able to cut and get passes from Luka.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
I know TJ needs to go, but I'm pretty sure he's going to thrive at his next spot and there are going to be a lot of "what were the Suns thinking?" articles when he does. Doesn't matter. It just wasn't going to happen here.
The same may be true for Josh as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him excel somewhere else. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in 3 years.

I genuine hope TJ has a healthy thriving career wherever he ends up and that Josh can get his head straightened out.

Keep Warren unless it is a move for an upgrade, not just more cap space and a low 1stR pick. Don't just give away talent on a good contract.
Dump Jackson so you free up 25mpg at the wings.
Draft/trade for/sign a PG and a real stretch big.

No surprise teams are showing interest in acquiring a proven scorer on a good deal from a dumb franchise. Sharks smell blood and FOs are lining up to fleece PHX.
