DeAndre Hunter feels like a guy the Hawks always draft and have on their roster. DeMarre Carroll or Taurean Prince...he looks like a nice player but I wouldn't trust him entirely at the 4.

I am not defending yesterday, but would you have preferred we stand pat, take Culver/White at 6, take a flyer at 32, and move into FA? Would that be a better position than we are now?

Unfortunately, yes. The salary cap aftermath is that we have added a pyrrhic 3M in cap space compared to what we had before the draft.

Then, even if you don't look at each move separately and try to take in mind the whole picture, the result is not good.

Warren vs Saric. Some wanted to dump Warren, some saw value in him. Some like Saric, some have doubts about how much he improves us considering the remaining pieces. Call it a tie.

#6 vs #11. Obviously there is no question as to what's better in abstract, let alone after seeing what Jones did with the pick.

#32 vs #24. At that point in the draft, probably just about the same. In any case, I would have never agreed to take 5'4M in mediocre salary plus surrending a 1stR in a future draft.

So yeah, I'd much rather just use #6 on BPA, then I stretch/dump Meth, Jackson, Okobo and Melton, renounce to everybody but Oubre and I am right there with 27M in cap space for a max offer sheet to Brogdon/Russell or to break into smaller contracts to sign useful vets.

Fun fact: in 10 postseason games in 2017-18, Saric averaged 17 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.5 topg.

Saric is a great addition. There’s really no doubt about it. He will thrive here and quickly become a fan favorite.

How would people feel if we simply drafted Clarke at 11 and did everything else the same?

Or if after landing 11, we traded that to Boston for 20/22/Baynes and took Johnson/Jerome without sending out the Mil Pick?

To me the only obvious mistake is just taking Cam Johnson way too high. I was fine with every other move...though losing 32 hurt a little, but Warren needed to go.

One thought: If we let Tyler and Josh expire, we should have significant cap space in 2020...though the free agent class sucks.

Even with Oubre at 14 million, spending 14 million in free agent money, and retaining Saric’s 10 million cap hold, we’ll still have 20+ million in space.

Although, the smart thing to do may be to sign guys to 2 year deals this off season and have a ton of space in 2021.

Much better, tbh. It's not even so much about Johnson vs. Clarke as prospects rather our roster construction. I feel like we're missing athleticism right now and we really, really need someone who can play next to Ayton defensively. I feel like Clarke could have been that guy. Saric is better than TJ in that regard, but offers pretty much no resistance at the rim. Last year secondary rim protection was a huge weakness.

Johnson will be in a minutes crunch from day 1 as he can't really create and has a redundant offensive skill-set to Bridges.

So basically, we still need to sign a defensive 4 and once we do it will be even harder to find minutes for Johnson. We still need to sign a shot creator and once we do it will be harder to find minutes for Jerome.

Does Lecque count against the cap? When do draft picks officially sign? Can we just wait to sign him until later? Not that it’s a big deal, but without his contract, we hit the 14.1 number that I came up with.

Everyone knew he would pick it up, so it doesn't prevent him from being traded. I don't think it hurt the Suns at all to wait until today. Waiting until the last possible day would have been much worse.

I don't think there is anything wrong with him waiting to exercise his option. We all knew he would do it. He could have waited even longer and made it hard for us to have plans ready for day-one of free agency. He has every right to decide on his option whenever he wants to decide on it. For all we know he wanted to wait to see whether we drafted a PG before exercising it. At any rate it is totally up to him and he has every right to do that.
