It seems like real mismanagement that we are not doing everything we can to keep Holmes around. He was great; exactly the kind of bench PF/C we need, and he likes playing here. Why are we just letting him hang out to dry and not pursuing keeping him around? I get that we would want to wait until we handled any big fish like Russell or Brogdon, but wouldn't we want to at least talk to him and let him know we want him here? Why are we letting a player like that slip through our fingers?

Gambo says Holmes will be gone, and we already replaced him with Baynes.

What about Phoenix flipping Tyler Johnson -- on an expiring one-year deal -- and some flotsam for Wiggins? That would seem dumb. Phoenix already has young centerpiece players to sell hope. Wiggins would cripple their cap sheet going forward. Still: Never underestimate the Suns.

Answers are coming starting on Sunday.

What do you think the absolutely terrifying ramifications are for the Suns?
Mismanaged assets, overspending on players who don't make a real difference, strangled flexibility and a flawed roster with a low ceiling due to no defense and questionable shooting and athleticism. That's not why we've been enduring so much time of rebuilding and asset gathering.

Oubre is ours if we put a good offer on the table and sign him before the teams waiting on bigger fish can make an offer.
Problem with that is we need his $9.6M cap hold to be flexible. If Oubre gets his money quickly, the team will have a hard time doing a big move. If I were his agent, I'd be looking for an under the table agreement so Jones can keep doing things this summer, but it would cost him those $20M per. And if somehow another team offers me that, I don't mess around and put ink on paper as soon as possible. The issue is that the roster and cap construction we've given ourselves is forcing us to bend over backwards for an average to slightly above average forward.

No inside info, but I haven't heard any sign of us reaching out to him. And his own mother has no idea whether he'll come back here and is posting vague goodbye-and-thanks-ish messages. And we just traded for 2 guys who play PF/C and drafted a forward.

Good point. Do we still have room for him on the roster? Would we have enough minutes for him? It's a tough call but I guess we're only 2 deep at center without him.

Ty, a junior, became the only player in the history of the NCAA Tournament to have at least 90 points, 15 3-pointers, 30 assists and 30 rebounds in a single tournament. Between that championship run, and being selected in the first round of last Thursday’s NBA Draft, the New Rochelle, N.Y., native couldn’t have asked for a better year.

As NBA commissioner Adam Silver made the pick official, Ty immediately turned hugged his mother, who was sitting on the couch. When he checked his phone again, there were hundreds of congratulatory messages from friends and family, but the first person he responded to was his new Suns teammate Mikal Bridges.

You agree to the terms and then just wait to officially sign him later. Oubre may not want to do that, so that could happen, but I still think our best bet is to make a good offer on June 30th at 6 PM and then get all our other plans figured out by July 6th.

Ideally, we have everything worked out and they don't even shop around for an offer sheet. But if we go with the "Here's 12, go find a better deal and we'll match", then I could see things getting dragged out and maybe a little ugly.

Ya, with Barnes getting 20...we’re gonna have to offer more than 12. I don’t know what it will take, but I’m thinking it’ll be more than 4/60

We can’t afford to break the bank for Kelly when he’d be competing for minutes with Mikal, Dario and Cam. We have to be ready to let him walk if he signs a juicy offer with another team.

We could always front load the contract. That could help give us space in the future before we extend Bridges/Ayton.

Would you guys do a 4 years 72 million contract that starts at 20 million and decreases each year. Something like 20/18.4/16.9/15.5?

That’s not an option if we’re matching an offer sheet from another team.

That’s why you don’t let it get to that. Offer him this the first minute of free agency.

I pretty much agree. Front-loading does seem to make sense.

And no game playing with the ROFR. Let him know right up front what we’re willing to give him. If he accepts, great. If he tests the market and gets a better offer, let him go.

Cam's an unknown right now, as is Dario who's also potentially a 1 yr player for us. We need NBA players and stability.

4 years 70ish is what THJ and Bazemore got in 2016.
