You'd have to think that they tried to get him on a cap friendly of a contract as possible. I mean, that's why it's a negotiation, right?

Absolutely. No more trash offense and the inability to make a bucket. Booker has been asked to do all this playmaking and the offense and talent has been horrendous. Just ugly basketball. Now we’ve got at least 3 starters who can pass the ball between Rubio, Saric, and Book. It’s not an “overnight fix” but at least they’ll be playing to win a game instead of just trying to not be blown out.
And look! There’s actually a bench! TJ, Baynes, Bridges, and the rooks. Hopefully Ayton is working on his PNR dive and post moves all summer.

And how can you begin to say nobody else is lining up for his services? As if he's suddenly a bad basketball player. You have to strike early with a player you can realistically obtain. You don't jerk around with D'Lo, for example, if it's already known his intentions to sign with another team. Then Rubio signs somewhere else and you're actually left with Ish Smith. Imagine the outrage if we got him. And you're suggesting it's basically the same player.

Waiting out players indicates a disinterest. There's so much more that goes into all of this behind the scenes. If it was as easy as sitting back, watching FA's get snatched up and then seeing if a player is willing to wait out your lower offer, especially being a bottom 3 team year in and year out. It's laughable how many fans play armchair GM and think it's as easy as thinking things into existence.

Even better. Where are you getting your numbers then? He was on a bargain 3 year contract. You know he's going to get paid by somebody so how the heck are you coming up with 13 million per season if it was 11 per season during the Ish Smith bargain years?
