Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
4/68 to 4/72 is what I’d do. Start him around 18/19 and have the contract decrease each year.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
While I like Saric and I'm not mad about Rubio, I do think Monty has his hands full. We may not have much shooting from PG, C, backup PF, or SF.
Tyler Johnson and Oubre both shot about the same as Rubio from 3 last season. Bridges was only a little better (I think he'll improve, but there's the risk that he won't), and Baynes only started shooting 3s last season. There's a good chance he doesn't shoot as well with the Suns as he did in Boston.
Booker and Saric are the only guys I am confident will shoot well from deep this season. Fingers crossed for the rest of the team. Fingers crossed for Monty.
If I was coaching this team, I'd go back to the old Suns running style. Push the ball for a fast break opportunity every single possession. If you don't get a bucket on the run, pull it back and set up Ayton in the post or on the pick and roll. If that doesn't materialize, give it to Booker to create.

Well, with Daniels off to the Lakers, that's one sharp shooter down. But that's OK. Would have been tough to find him playing time.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I think we'll see more halfcourt sets with offense run thru Ayton, then we'll let Rubio run when he has the opportunity. Ayton surrounded by Booker, Oubre/Bridges/Cam?, and Saric provides enough floor spacing with the starting unit. The bench needs work.

Cam Johnson will help with shooting. I wasn't a fan of the pick, but its the one thing I'm confident he'll do. He'll help spacing if he can stay on the floor

Any oubree news? Quieter than I thought so far. Is he a fall back for the Lakers possibly?

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
The fact that they came out of the meeting with Oubre last night without an agreement is not good. This could turn into Joe Johnson 2.0.
If they told him to test the market and they’ll match, he may end up wanting to go elsewhere.

I’m not worried about Oubre. He’s coming back, could just be working out particulars

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

We just signed Frank Kaminsky. That helps.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 11:47 amWhile I like Saric and I'm not mad about Rubio, I do think Monty has his hands full. We may not have much shooting from PG, C, backup PF, or SF.

There really isn't any evidence to support the claim in the article. It's all conjecture.

“Apparently.” So does that mean he’s just making it up without sources?carey wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 1:19 pmThis was a foolish article to write - https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/su ... ar-AADHrpC

If not and it is true, I’m sure Booker already knew so the article won’t really matter too much necessarily. And it may even be Booker’s camp that leaked the info to Rankin.
But again Rankin doesn’t even claim that it’s based on sources so it could just be reckless “journalism”? The Republic seems to be mainly low budget garbage now, and most articles aren’t even close to decent English anymore. I’ve especially noticed how poor Rankin’s grasp of the English language seems to be. It’s shocking that he could even have a job as a writer, and I guess they no longer have editors over there.

Gambo says it’s completely false.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Interesting when thinking about the TJ deal.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
I think it's pretty clearly stated in the article, but you never know what "league sources" means. I probably believe it for the most part and I'm sure Gambo would say it's completely false. We'll just have to see how it shakes out, but it's just another bad look for the org to have that kind of thing going around.
Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
Notice also according to the article Jones was just lucky once again. They were trying to sign Rozier as their top target (probably at $17 million per year?), and they happened to have Rubio fall to them after Indiana got Brogdon. If that hadn’t happened, we would have been stuck with Joseph (or maybe Beverley).
It does not give me much confidence in Jones.

Re: Suns News: 2019 Off-Season
More like we were going after Brogdon but got outbidded by the Pacers, then fellback into the option they were pursuing. Rozier probably was our backup plan for Brogdon, so yeah, we got lucky to came out of it with Rubio, but lucky is part of the game. “Brogdon coming to Phoenix” is very different than “Brogdon signing for $21.5 with Phoenix”. The same that “Ish Smith for $6 a year” won’t be so nice to read with “to become the new starting PG of the Suns” on the same sentence. Contracts in a vacuum with teams we care little about, always sounds better that what we want for our team. Kind of hanging around with one dude at the bar, then find out he is dating your baby sister/daughter.
