Re: Eric Bledsoe agrees to 5 year, 70 Million Contract Exten
I'm happy Bledsoe ist still a Phoenix Sun. I think he is a big part of what makes this Team a Playoff contender. Also i don't dislike Bledsoe as a Person at all and don't blame him for anything that happend this offseason. I think he wanted to stay in Phoenix and that we were his first Option during this entire process. The LeBron tweet clearly indicates it.
Obviously this deal could have been made sooner, if his Agents would have been less stuborn in they're Position of demanding the max. But this is the way it went down and it was really frustrating at times. For those of you who wanted him traded, i didn't like any of the deals, that where discussed in the media and everything else that was discussed is just speculation or Fantasy. (Love, Wiggins, Greak Freak...)
We have two more draft picks coming next year and enough promissing Players to develop as it is. I do think we Need to improve the 4 and 5 and that we now have good assets to do so.
Today is a good day for the Suns!

dont be surprised if IT, bleds and dragic are all on the court at the same time, #gilas style.pickle wrote:i posted in the other thread about this... i think the contract was a bit high but i'm more or less okay with it. one of my favorite quotes from my favorite comic strip, calvin and hobbes, sums this up rather elegantly: "a good compromise leaves both parties upset." (or something to that degree)
it was a compromise between the two parties, rich paul still managed a fair bit of negative PR for his client even though he managed to score a contract, which is apparent in the mixed (and mostly negative) reactions we have on the board. but i'm ready to move on. this contract has been a fairly major saga going back to my early days as a suns fan (KJ/chambers era). yeah, we lost joe johnson and mcdyess etc, but none of those situations dragged out for as long as this one did. i'm ready to move on and look at the team we have on the court, rather than focus more on who won and who lost in the negotiation game.
so, dragic, bledsoe, and thomas! here's hoping that the three of them (with other back court talent to boot) will divide up the minutes enough that nobody gets injured, and we maintain excellent health deep into the season. i wouldn't be terribly upset if all 3 of them get about 30 min per game and all 3 are still fresh during playoffs.
i'm more worried about the 4 and 5 positions.
i cautiously hopeful that we might move some of our assets for a more dependable big man, though i'm still willing to give len a chance.

Technically isn't it the contract we gave him?Superbone wrote:Well, one thing we can all agree on, the new Suns aren't afraid to spend some money.
The funny thing is this is the same contract Joe Johnson got after he left us.
Re: Eric Bledsoe agrees to 5 year, 70 Million Contract Exten
He wanted 5/80, they offered 4/48. Stretched out to 5 that would have been 5/60, sounds like they very much met the definition of compromise.
You have to think we have a 2- or 3-for-1 trade lined up, because this team is remarkably unbalanced.

I agree. I think it's just positioning. Much like the Houston Rockets GM, Morey does. With the salary cap making a significant jump in the next couple of years, this won't look like a bad deal for either side. I think they kept flexibility for other moves going forward. Also, I believe that he will stay healthy enough and the contract becomes movable if needed and Bledsoe keeps growing his value. I thought eventually a compromise would have worked out, just didn't know for sure that the Bledsoe camp wanted anything less than the Max.

I'm surprised some people are so down on this contract, 14 per is just fine for a dynamic 2-guard who is 24 years old. I get the injury risk, its there, but there's risk in everything - there's a huge risk that the Suns lose Bledsoe for nothing if this deal doesn't happen.
He stays healthy? You get an elite talent through his prime years at less that 'max' value with a cap that is only going up. In a world where Parsons and Heyward are making 14 mil + per year, I'm more than OK with Bledsoe in that range.
At the end of the day, I'm not going to sweat a couple million extra per year because he's a premium talent and its hard to get those in Phoenix. You have to have some trust in the medical staff and their opinon on his knee, and considering he's only 24 the 5th year ends with him still in his prime. \
I like it.

Re: Eric Bledsoe agrees to 5 year, 70 Million Contract Exten
The fifth year is what makes me sick. But at least there is not any opt out clause at year two for Bledsoe, wich would put all the risk on the Suns' side.
This is a bussiness, not a pissing contest, so I'm ok with both sides finally meeting in some middle ground. Althoug I think 70/5 is a lot for Bledsoe, to let him go on the middle of a tantrum because he is a mercenary/obtuse/cold /calculated kind of player, would have been bad bussiness. I hope the FO is right about the final figures in the contract so it doesn't become a Marcus Banks 2.0 kind of situation.

EB's shot could go completely south and his defense would still make him extremely effective.
The big risk here is his health, not his play. You have health risks with ANY player. The meniscus issue raises it some. But that is why his did not get max money.
Re: Eric Bledsoe agrees to 5 year, 70 Million Contract Exten
Yeah, I think this is true. We need to quit thinking about who we would trade and start thinking about who we would want. What players are free agents, disgruntled, or on the trading block that would make sense for this team . We need all-star level talent somewhere in the front court.carey wrote:I think we have our fingers crossed that something comes along, but I don't think anything is imminent.Dan H wrote:You have to think we have a 2- or 3-for-1 trade lined up, because this team is remarkably unbalanced.
Keef is a solid starter IMO but he needs an all-star type at the SF or center beside him. Who knows what Len's potential really is. The potential is there. McD said in a radio interview yesterday that as he watches practices, the biggest improvement over the summer is at the center position.
TJ's potential at the SF is really intriguing to me. I have to think that he has all-star potential. He has a mature game already.
If Len can rebound in double digits and protect the rim, and TJ can become an all-star type talent, I would think this team would be at contender status.

The fifth year is not brilliant, but, compromise from both sides meets in the middle. If he stays heathy this will be a fantastic deal with the cap rising.
As others have said, the front court needs some work to make us truly dangerous.
