"Likely to total 52 mill", would mean that asuming an even split, it is two contracts for 26/4, or am I reading it wrong??

6,5 a year would be a great contract for Markieff, and a little hefty for Marcus if he does not improve, so, all in all, 52 over 4 years for the current twin power sounds about right to me, and a steal if one of them improve to average starter.

If its 52/4 for BOTH of them, 6.5M/year for both sound pretty reasonable, especially for Keef.

I echo Aztec & 219 - that sounds about in line with what they may have earned on the open market (and maybe a little lean for Markieff, to boot).

Love this news - hopefully we'll hear something about it at Media Day later on.....

markieff - 3yrs, 30 mil (10 per) = 30 mil
marcus - 3yrs, 21mil (7 per) = 21 mil
=====================================
around 51 mil total.

From what the tweets indicate above, they're each getting 4 year deals - and, with the $52 million figure indicated, that equals out to $13 million a year collectively. Reason I said that it sounds in line with what they've earned on the open market is I think it might split something like :

Markieff - 4 years/$36 million ($9 million per)
Marcus - 4 years/$16 million ($4 million per)

Hopefully, we'll hear something later on today - again, perhaps at Media Day.....

My problem with this is that Marcus will be making way too much for his current value and Markieff will be right where he should be. One will be moveable and one won't, and I feel like we'll be stuck with them for 4 years or they will have to be moved as a package which will be very difficult. I have felt for the last few months that about $10M/yr for the two of them is about my limit (I was thinking 7 & 3), but almost every contract given out this Summer has been more than what I thought the player should get, except maybe Lowry and I guess IT. I still don't understand the Jordan Hill contract. Anyway, what seems to be going on is that McDonough is banking on the fact that these guys are all going to continue to improve (Bledsoe, Markieff, Marcus, and IT) and will be locked in together for the next 4 years on somewhat reasonable deals. So when the cap balloons in 2 years we will have the space to add a meaningful FA.

Like it or not our core seems to be Bledsoe, Dragic, IT, Markieff, Marcus, and Plumlee going forward the next 4 years. I'm not entirely sure if I'm happy about that, but McDonough is going to get a reputation around the league as a GM that believes in players and takes care of his guys if they work hard.

Agreed.

Same here. I was operating under an 8-10M per combined, but those figures are before the pre-TV madness came.

Disagree with Marcus' value - sure, he dropped off severely down the stretch last year like with most of the team, but $4 million per is a Jared Dudley contract and Marcus produced at about the same clip as Dudley's high water mark a few years ago, only Marcus' ceiling is definitely higher.

Though I get what you say about McDonough cementing a reputation of taking care of the club's players.....

I don't think both of those guys combined is 52mil. I doubt Marcus would get the MLE on the open market and Kieff would be lucky to see 6-7mil. Patrick Patterson got 18 over 3 and his numbers are actually pretty comparable. And with Marcus, I have yet to see him do anything that really stands out. He's got a great frame and skillset, but it doesn't seem to really translate. He's got overly athletic, isn't a lockdown defender or knockdown 3pt shooter, can't handle well enough to be a threat off the dribble. I'd rather give some of his money to Green longterm and his minutes to Warren. This is the problem I have with these two. You can't take one without the other.

Morris twins extention

Post by djy2j »

Marc Stein: Hearing: Twin brothers Markieff & Marcus Morris closing in on contract extensions with Phoenix that could be announced as early as Monday Twitter -

Split equally to the 2 brothers. Says around 52 million total. Ryan kid of snuck that extention on on us. I hadn't heard any word of talks.

I just hope we don't overpay therm. Marcus Morris honestly isn't a very special player, and i look at this pair of extensions as being about locking up Markieff, not Marcus.

The extensions are final. There's a separate thread on the main board. Stein had the total right but the splits wrong. It's 8/yr for Markieff and 5/yr for Marcus.

Kieff gets the new full MLE. Decent. Marcus at 5M per irks me.
