Whoa. RIP. He did a lot for the NBA even if I don't appreciate his rulings on our Suns.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Somebody on another board said the flags are at half mast in San Antonio.

This is the polite version of the thoughts in my head when I saw the news on the ticker.

Sad news. It came so suddenly, too, with that brain hemmorrhage and then his just collapsing and never recovering. He screwed over our Suns during the Nash years as we all know, but overall he managed the league into the huge success it is today. And you could tell that he really did love the game and its teams and players. One of the most substantial figures in the history of the league. He will be missed.

Most never survive the hemorrhage in the first place, especially a 77 year old. He does seem to be the most influential person in the history of the NBA.

Probably the greatest Commissioner in American sports history.

I can remember the day when CBS showing the NBA Finals games on tape delay because they didn't want to preempt their prime time schedule.

The league was seen as drug-riddled and too black, but after working with the players to install a salary cap and drug agreement, Stern was named Commissioner and over the course of his thirty year tenure the league went from talk of franchises folding to teams selling for billions of dollars.
