Suns win! Very encouraging to get a W even when Booker wasn't playing his best. Oubre was great (25 pts and 14 (!) rebounds), and Ayton had a very solid game: 18 points on 9-15 shooting and 9 rebounds.

Ayton on postgame radio interview tells Al McCoy about coming off the bench: "It's almost like a secret weapon! I'm treating it like a secret weapon."
"I'm a Deandre Ayton guy."--Al McCoy, September 21, 2022.

I'm not sure Ayton understands the definition of "secret".

I’m not sure it’s a good idea to listen when Ayton opens his mouth.

The refs seem to buy in on the Hornets' physical style of play ... but the Suns managed to struggle through it.specialsauce wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 8:19 pmAwful callsiLLmatic wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 8:11 pmThat shooting foul by oubre was trashFlagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 8:10 pmThe non shooting foul on Ayton's ally oop attempt and then the shooting foul called on Oubre were atrocious.

It's that youthful exuberance.

On the other hand, we were lucky to get a win when our franchise player had single digits for the game until he got 4 FTs after it was over.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 6:48 pmRubio is shooting well tonight. Can't waste that performance.

At least he's being positive. Can't believe so many of you are knocking him for being immature or cringe worthy. He could bitch and complain about it and then we'd have a real problem.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Agree. He should never say anything and give the spoon fed robotic responses we've come to expect ad nauseum from athletes. What a terrible young man.

Yikes. 2 bad offenses collide and Phoenix was just slightly less bad. They manned up and got the win.
Ayton had some spurts where he looked really good. Seems like it is happening more often. Zeller torched him on the offensive glass though. I can’t really blame him for never boxing out. He clearly has no idea what that is so it’s on the coaches for letting it go on so long. It’s so fundamentally bad.
Saric stat line was surprisingly decent for seeming pretty invisible out there. A +17 though.
Rubio’s offense is apparently a coupon that expired at year’s end. It’s completely null and void.
Let’s hope they can get on a roll on this road trip and build from these couple wins.

Ayton had a good game overall, but there were some head shaking stretches in the first and third quarters. His main issues were related to his hoops IQ and occasionally with his effort tonight.
I think his "secret weapon" comment sounds ridiculous, but it's the right idea in general. The Suns bench is absolutely terrible, so getting him possessions when Booker and Rubio are on the bench might just be the only way to prevent the other team from killing us.

there was a lot of hacking and chopping going on. It wasnt good defense at all, the refs just werent calling fouls. Yet Zellar seemed to get any call he wanted? The refs managed to make an ugly game fugly.
probably the best game ive seen from oubre. He made things happen on offense when we needed it. He seemed a little more control on most of his drives than usual.
bridges was a little too unselfish on a few possessions. he gave up drives to pass for outside shots - it looked premeditated.
we really need a bench scorer. \Do your job please Mr jones

Yeah, been saying this since early December. We badly need a Lou Williams 6th-man type. I can’t figure who is available though.Danimal wrote: we really need a bench scorer. \Do your job please Mr jones
