D'Angelo Russell isn't that great. He is nearly as flawed as Wiggins. The fact they got a 1st rounder out of Minnesota is impressive. Even without the pick, I like Wiggins for GS. Good trade for them.

Getting rid of Saric, Baynes and/or Johnson for picks puts us back where we've been the past two seasons with a roster packed with GLeaguers and waiver guys- getting blown out by halftime, being the punching bag of the league and shutting down guys like Rubio and Book early.

I think you took a leap in logic there. None of those things happened because we traded players for picks.

Exactly. At the end of the day, this is still a bad team, and we don't have anything in place (except maybe Monty) that would give Booker a reason to remain committed to the franchise.

We probably have to have a discussion soon about how bad Rubio has been. I think he's worn out completely and there's still the Olympics. It could be worse next year.

His numbers are pretty much in line with his career numbers.

I am not one for making a move just to make it, but you in case you really think the current expiring contracts we have are players that will help our team the next 30 games, there is no reason to hold onto them. I can't believe nobody wanted Baynes for a late first rounder. Or Saric for a 2nd. I get if nobody had a bad enough cap situation next year to want to trade for TJ, but c'mon man.

We could have traded TJ, Saric and a pick for Drummond.

I lean positive on Rubio still.

Rubio, Booker and Ayton have started together for 15 games only, going 7-8.

But Rubio has been physically battling since the San Antonio game 9 games ago (although he's only played in 8 of those, going 3-5).

Up to and including the SA game he was averaging 13.5pts, 9.4ast, 4.8rbds, after it's 7pts, 5asts and 3rbs.

There's a bunch of intangibles that pass first guards can provide, team chemistry the main one, and to hear Kelly / Monty etc after the trade deadline say the vibe is really good / everyone's stoked to still be in Phoenix etc..I think Ricky is partly responsible for that.

I'm giving it till the end of the season with the benefit of more reps and health, hopefully, to pass judgement.
