The Ringer's latest mock draft has us grabbing Devin Vassell. His comp is literally Oubre and Bridges. I would rather have Kira Lewis Jr. or even Tyrell Terry, just from a needs perspective.

https://nbadraft.theringer.com/#mock

Also, they predict Hayes dropping to 8--I would be willing to move up to 8, if the price is right. Although the right price for me in this draft is a few obligatory 2nd round picks.

James Jones loves him some SFs tho and if they're all diverse in skillset or multi-faceted, you can run a somewhat positionless lineup. I just think we have more pressing needs which could be addressed.

The Knicks are smokescreening a lot IMO about who they're going to take - from Okoro to Vassel to Hayes to Lewis.

The only thing I'm worried about is that Vassell's shot form was changed in the wrong way. It may take him yrs to fix it back.

Ya I’m out on vassell, especially with his shot. I just don’t see what he gives us that we don’t already have.

As for Hayes, I just have a hard time seeing him drop. I’m starting to think Charlotte, Chicago or Cleveland will take him. All of them have multiple guards, but they are poor passing guards. Hayes has size and is a great passer. He’d fit well next to guys like Rozier/Graham, Garland/Sexton, or White/LaVine.

If anyone drops, I’m thinking it will be Obi Toppin.

I definitely think Washington and Charlotte are looking for bigs unless Washington is able to trade Wall or Beal. The Knicks would take Wiseman or Toppin if they fall IMO but neither will.

I think Charlotte wants Wiseman. But if he goes top 2, I don’t know that they go big. Toppin doesn’t seem like a good fit to me, would they take Okungwu 3?

Maybe they trade back in that case. If you have Rozier and Graham chucking, you better get a big for rebounds and putbacks. But they'll probably end up with Avdija and ruin his career.

Jalen Smith would be an amazing running mate with Ayton. I like Kira Lewis also.

Can't believe Nico isn't even mocked in the first round.

Simmons and O'Conner just had a podcast where they walked through the 10 players in the draft. The Suns were last, and they talked about the pick for about 30 seconds before Simmons started talking about why Devin Booker was going to leave for the Knicks or another team after this season. I think he has been discussing this theory since Trump's inauguration.

I think Arizona's inconsistent season (and Sean Miller's terrible coaching) hurt his stock, but even then, I think Nico was a bit overrated. But I also think Paul Reed should be top 10 in this draft, so I think it's likely that there's going to be some second round steals in this draft.

What are the odds that next season's rookie of the year comes from the second round?

See like every year I am getting greedy. Now I want a way to walk away with Jalen Smith and Nesmith.

Just checking in; have we officially changed from the "this is one of the weakest drafts in 20 years" phase of analysis to the "there are a TON of great prospects, what a great draft" phase yet?

I think this never was a thing. More like, sucks (relatively) to have a top pick, but there is depth. What I have actually seen (on other sites as well) is "trading up is not worth it".

I dont love anyone in this draft. Kinda like the Onyeka Okongwu upside, Toppin has a solid floor, but the shooters/guards do nothing for me.

Hayes, Nesmith, Haliburton are legit. If we can get one, it’ll be a successful draft.

Ya, there’s some intriguing prospects, but no one in this draft that you can confidently take and think you’ve got a core top 3 guy.

Maybe they find a core guy or maybe they don't. I think you're right, it's hard to be confident that you will draft one. I'm hoping that Hayes falls to the Suns, but I don't expect it.

There could be an argument to trade Jerome and #10 to Detroit for Kennard, just because it could be a crap shoot, and you at least may know what you have in Kennard.

Ya I’m sure some core guys will come from this draft, just hard to pinpoint them. And the more I think about it, I think Hayes goes closer to 1 than 10. Guys who can play on ball are just the most valuable, and he’s one of the few in the top 10. I’ve heard Lamelo isn’t fairing too well in interviews, if he slides, Killian might be the guy for someone. Honestly wouldn’t be floored if he went to any team in the top 5. Think Detroit would be crazy to let him get past them at 7.
