As written, if I could snap my fingers and one of these would happen, I would go 5. I think it also gives us room to sign Wood if we renounce the rest of our 4/5s.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 1:41 pmWhat does everyone prefer. These are the outlines I see right now for our offseason. Of course I’m sure JJ will go a completely different direction. Feel free to add different outlines. Assume Booker/Ayton/Bridges/Johnson are here in all scenarios.
1. We retain Rubio/Oubre, renounce all free agents/options and use #10 to clear cap space to sign FVV in free agency. Fill out the rest of roster with exceptions and minimum contracts. (By clear cap space, I trade down from 10 and have the other team take Ty Jerome)
2. We move Rubio/Oubre for CP3. We retain Payne/Carter/Saric and whoever else you want, plus full MLE and #10 pick. (There may be a way to do this trade after we use our cap space. We’d renounce everyone and include Jerome and Lecque with Rubio and Oubre for salary matching purposes. So you could spend your 15-18 million first.)
3. We retain Oubre/Rubio, renounce Saric/Baynes/Kaminsky, but keep Payne/Carter and spend cap space on your choice at the 4(Wood, Grant, Bertans, Gallo, etc) We also keep #10 here.
4. We retain Rubio/Oubre. We operate over the cap and bring everyone back from the bubble team and just add a MLE player and #10 pick.
5. We trade Oubre/10 to Brooklyn for Dinwiddie/19. With this move you can choose to retain any free agents you want and have the MLE or renounce them and use the 20-24 million in cap space.

Ya that one does seem intriguing. The trade itself creates cap space as Oubre makes more money than Dinwiddie. You could target Wood or Grant with the cap space and draft a wing at 19. Perhaps Bane even is still on the board. You could keep Payne/Carter/Diallo around and still have enough space to sign Wood or Grant.
Rubio/Dinwiddie/Payne
Booker/Carter/Jerome
Bridges/Bane/Lecque
Wood/Johnson
Ayton/Diallo
Sign a couple backup bigs with your exceptions and there ya go.
I do think #1 is still my favorite. It has the potential to give us a top 7 of:
Booker/Ayton/FVV/Oubre/Bridges/Rubio/Johnson
Add a room exception big man and whatever we get in the draft and you’ve got a solid rotation. Could bring back Payne/Carter too.
#3 is also interesting to me. Sign Wood and draft Lewis/Hayes/Terry
Booker/Rubio/#10 pick at guard(Add Payne/Carter for depth)
Brides/Johnson/Oubre at wing
Ayton/Wood as your bigs.
Rubio/Dinwiddie/Payne
Booker/Carter/Jerome
Bridges/Bane/Lecque
Wood/Johnson
Ayton/Diallo

Re: Suns News: Offseason
How about:
Kelly/#10/Jerome for Kennard/#7.
A. If Haliburton is there at 7, you take him and sign Wood. Retain Saric on a 1+1, let Baynes and Frank go and sign a lower end backup big (Giles?) Rubio/Hali/Payne
Booker/Kennard/Carter
Bridges/Cam
Wood/Saric
Ayton/Giles
B. If Hali is gone, you take whomever is left between Toppin and Okongwu. Retain Saric on a 1+1, let Baynes and Frank go and sign Justin Holiday, DJ Augustin and one more big for depth.
Guards:
Rubio/Augustin/Payne
Booker/Kennard/Carter
Wings:
Bridges/Cam/Holiday
Bigs:
Ayton/Okongwu or Toppin/Saric/Depth signing

Re: Suns News: Offseason
I think I'd only do it if Haliburton is there. If not I'd look into trading down but I think a lot of teams are going to attempt to do that.

That all hinges on signing Wood. If he doesn't want to be here, we would be in bad shape up front.

But is it worth adding both Haliburton and Kennard at the expense of a talented forward? You're signing up for a lot of Booker at the SF spot, I think.

Re: Suns News: Offseason
That’s fair, I definitely prefer Kelly to Kennard. I guess you could take Toppin or Okungwu instead of Haliburton, but I like Haliburton a lot better. I think ultimately I’d stay away, unless you know you’ve got Wood locked up.

There’s been a lot of speculation, is this the first big name reporter to say we’ve had discussions?

Re: Suns News: Offseason
Something in my gut tells me this ain’t happening. Suns have been so secretive that I feel like if talks were anywhere close to being serious we wouldn’t hear about it. Feels like OKC posturing more than anything else. I put this at a cp3% chance of happening.
Re: Suns News: Offseason
I’m not a cap expert, so tell me if I’m wrong, but I believe we could do this without Oubre involved.
If we pick up the team options on Kaminsky, Diallo, and Payne, plus guarantee Okobo for next season and then add Jerome, Rubio, plus whoever we take at 10, that puts the salary to 34 million.
That’s a pretty complicated 7 for 1 trade though.
This is where I don’t know if it’s in the rules, but can you sign and trade a player like Baynes or Saric and add them into a trade with Rubio for CP3?
Rubio/Frank/Jerome plus Saric or Baynes signed to a deal starting at 9 million would also work.
Re: Suns News: Offseason
I know I have been a big critic of Rubio, and that has been much more based on what I expect to see from him in year 2 and 3 of his contract. But there is no way that Paul is worth 25M more than Rubio each year. If we do a trade, it better include some great picks coming back to us.

If there was a way to get CP3 and keep Oubre still, that would be fantastic. I’d be extremely happy with that. I know Sauce would disagree.
