I'd say a lot of it has to do with the season (supposedly) starting a month from now instead of 3 months from now like in a normal off-season. Teams have to work a lot quicker but also They've had more time to put together a plan before free agency started. Several teams seasons ended back in March.

I would love to keep Baynes. Letting him go would seem to rest on the assumption that Ayton and (a re-signed) Saric can hold down the 5 spot with a little help from Smith. I don't think I agree with that. Smith may not be ready or might not translate to the NBA, and Saric is much more of a 4. It would really help us to have an actual veteran backup center you can count on in a big game.

In fact, I'm kind of surprised that there's been way more chatter about retaining Saric and almost none about keeping Baynes. It's like it's a foregone conclusion that Baynes will be gone. Why? He was great for us this past season. Saric was mostly not so great, other than some good games in the bubble. Why is Saric more important to keep than Baynes?

Hmm, i thought Saric was better than Baynes. Baynes was awesome for about 15 games and then really tailed off/got hurt.

Saric had his struggles too, but it helps that he had his big moments at the end of the season, while Baynes had his at the beginning. So some recency bias. I’d also point out that Saric had his big moments playing at the 5 in the bubble. I think he’s a 5. He’s also like 8 years younger and healthier.

So Trae/Bogdan/Gallo/Collins/Capela

Rondo/Dunn/Reddish/Hunter/Okungwu off the bench. Huerter in there somewhere too.

I don’t know if it should be Baynes but I agree that we need an actual backup center. That’s why I was hoping for Tristan Thompson (who could play both 4 and 5) rather than Crowder.

I might sign Dedmon at this point.

Not bad for GS.

Feels like we might have reached the point where players just start signing for the minimum. Might see some more acquisitions soon.

Damn I was hoping we could snag Bazemore but I think he played there before and they might have more minutes for him.

L-tax is at $139M. Including Carter, Payne, Nader and Smith, the Suns have $112M on the books, so they can spend non trivial money on both Saric and Baynes if they want to, which would be wise to do since you need to create salary mass for further moves in a win-now plan.
That’s 27 million, ESPN has us with only 21 million, but ya that extra 6 would help.
Pretty sure David Nash showed we have room to sign Dario (reasonable amount), use the BAE, sign two vet min contracts, and bring back Baynes (probably a lower amount than he thought a year ago), and just make the cut off before the tax.

He earned that extension. Every dollar.

We do if Saric signs for like 7 million. That’s the big dominó.

I think what I’m most excited for this season, outside the Suns of course, is to see if the jumps a few players made in the bubble we’re legit. Mitchell and Murray were incredible.

The clippers only have the minimum left...or was Markieff included in that 64 million contract they gave Marcus?

I had no interest in Teague.

Bring in Shaq Harrison, Jordan McRae and Harry Giles.

Re-sign Dario and Jevon.

Call it a day.
Teague would have been an above average backup; not sure why we wouldn't want that.

I like Shaq Harrison, but we've resigned Jevon and brought in Ty-Shon. I don't think there is room for him anymore. I would prefer e focus on bringing in someone who can play point guard; if Paul goes down, we can't just have Payne as the lone point guard left on the roster.

What other pg’s are left? Napier and McGlaughlin. Anyone else?

I’m in favor of McRae, he can handle the ball a bit, but he’s more of a scorer than a distributor. E’Twaun Moore is available, not sure what he has left. Some sites list Langston Galloway as a pg, but I feel like he’s mostly just a shooter.

and did we actually think Anderson was gonna be good?
Here is what Planet Orange had to say:
I remember someone saying that his 3 point shooting is not that good due to percentages, but the fact is he routinely pulls up from 3-4 feet behind the 3 point line, and everyone respects him as a shooter and guards him up close. He definitely will help on the court on the offensive side of things, and I still feel like he's a net positive in the locker room, so I'm not down on him.
Anderson knows how to play stretch 4, and will be able to teach a little in the locker room and in practice.
Anderson can still play but in a limited role or you get terribly exploited, although they seem confident that Ayton can cover his ass. If nothing else, now you have a real threat in pick and pop situations for 15-18 mpg.
Somehow the Suns wound up with the two players who spent most of the season as the starting forwards on the team with the NBA's best record last year.

Anderson will help offensively, but his defense can't be described any way other than "bad."
I'm not sure how Anderson fits but I do like that we are acquiring good vets to balance out our young guys. Ryno's salary is gross and probably takes us out of the FA hunt next year...Anderson is a huge upgrade at PF
What the hell? It was a DIFFERENT guy! Sheesh.
??? Split specifically asked what we thought about Anderson when we signed him. We have a long history of being overly excited for signings/picks/trades.
Indy is the only one who understands :( ;)

Give me Napier and McRae. Then maybe a couple bigs at the minimum...does that fill us up?

Paul/Payne/Napier
Booker/Carter/McRae
Bridges/Johnson/Nader
Crowder/Saric/Vet Min
Ayton/Smith/Vet Min

Two way: Ty-Shon
