I agree. The only other option is to let him be a back to the basket big. Run specific post ups for him to get him his touches and play inside out. We have the shooters in the starting lineup to make defenses pay or he can work against backup bigs with the 2nd unit.

He isn't a good enough passer or decision maker to do that. Because he isn't dominant enough like a shaq where he commanded double and triple teams so he can literally throw the ball out ANYWHERE for an open shooter.

Chris Paul had a decent game, but his physical conditioning looks roughly equal to that of Fake Chris Paul from the State Farm ads.

Yea he's always been thicker but I feel like he and Moore could drop a few.

I've been real impressed with Gallo thru the 2 games. Ready to play, looks real good on the ball defensively, gets to his spots and doesn't hesitate to shoot it. He's outplaying Moore by far IMO, tho I think Moore has been asked to handle more PG duties than he's used to.

Ya so far, Galloway looks like the first guard off the bench.

That was definitely a rough game. Ayton definitely with the deer in the headlights look going on and completely gassed. I still don’t want to make too much out of the preseason. I actually think it’s great to start in Salt Lake’s higher altitude and against a well polished playoff team who had little turnover in the offseason. Nothing like getting outclassed to motivate yourself. Next up the Lakers who are even more polished and just happen to be the NBA Champions. We aren’t even playing with our full deck yet. Monty has a lot of new pieces he has to sort out and already some players are floating to the top while others aren’t so much. When the season starts for real our rotation will be much shorter and will include Crowder and Saric. Even then it will take some time to start gelling imo. The Suns have 9 new players this season? That’s a lot of new faces. I asked this before but, don’t we have to trim the roster down some before the start of the season? How many players can we have? Has it changed due to Covid?

I still think it’s way too early to be concerned about our team. We’ve played 2 preseason games against a good team, who was relatively healthy and has really no new players. Of course Utah is going to be hitting their stride earlier than us.

Also, we had 3-4 rotation guys sitting both games. We haven’t seen Crowder or Saric yet, and CP3, and the Cam’s both missed 1 of the games.

I’m concerned about Ayton, but I’m not concerned about our team.
I'm not concerned. Just know it's going to take some time for this team to gel. It won't be there by opening night.

We can have 15 players with nba contracts

Paul, Booker, Bridges, Crowder, Ayton
Galloway,Moore, Cam, Smith, Saric
Payne, Carter, Nader, Motley, Jones

That’s 15 and I think Motley is non guaranteed.

Ty-shon is on a 2-way, so we don’t need to cut anyone.

appreciate the comments and analysis again as my first live game will probably be the 18th

glad to see some of y'all noticing how I referenced Jones being decent with Trae in the PnR so how I felt he should be fine in short mins with CP
also glad to see some positive takes on Smith, not surprised about his motor but the mobility being solid and the dribble drives are a good start

only prob with the positive takes on the two of those guys is that it has people already wanting them to cut into Ayton's minutes sigh smh. I not gonna go into that too much as just about everyone already ripped into him. found a full clip on CP with Ty-Shon and what's even cooler is that Jae is in the background doing the same thing

(just get a full time camera on CP3 tbh. I'd watch that over the rest of the game)
Sure, when they play like they did last night.

Honestly, outside of Paul and Payne, Ty-Shon has looked like the best pg. Of course he’s only been playing at the end against other end of bench guys.

We have one NBA level PG on the roster. As good as Payne was in the bubble as backup PG, it was 8 games and his career up to that point hadn't shown him as an NBA level PG. We really need a back up for those extra 15-18 minutes and for the dozen or so games Paul misses.

I really like Ty-Shons potential as a combo guard. He's got good enough handles but obviously needs experience. He was a very good shooter in college, but his form looks janky to me. Not sure how effective he'll be as an outside threat. Love seeing him out there tho and getting tips from Paul.

You guys are writing off Payne after one bad game? OK.

Nope. Not writing him off. He is on his 4th team in 5 years and hasn't shown the ability to be an NBA-level PG for more than 8 games. That may change, but right now he hasn't proved himself. I hope he does, because we REALLY need a backup PG that belongs in the NBA.

Ya, not writing off Payne. I was saying ty-shon was the best pg of the Carter/Galloway/Moore/Alexander group. I still hope Payne can find some of the bubble magic.

I wouldn't even regard Payne as a PG, more of a scoring guard who can play PG. He caught fire in the bubble but it's not like he was dishing out assists. It was a group effort with the 2nd unit passing and hitting shots. It's why I think Saric is a key guy, a "connector" as Monty calls him. He can initiate and take the pressure off those bench guards.
