Around the League: Offseason
Re: Around the League: Offseason
There is no shortage of bad-decision making in NBA front offices. Markelle Fultz?! Gross.
I like OG Anunoby, but how can you pay him that when he averaged double figure points for the first time last season: 10.6 ppg?!
Jonathan Isaac was developing nicely, but he has suffered two significant injuries already, and has he even played a full season? But yeah, here is $20 million a year.
And where is this money coming from? Last time I checked, fans still aren't in NBA arenas. Insane.

Re: Around the League: Offseason
I've been shocked by the spending this year.
Meanwhile, Collins, Markkanen, and Ball did not get extended. What were those guys asking for?

Re: Around the League: Offseason
I'd love to get in on Ball or Markkanen.
Re: Around the League: Offseason
Is that what 11ppg 3.5apg (46/37/85) is worth now & days? $18M per year?

Re: Around the League: Offseason
John Collins is asking for the max, right? At 4/80 ATL wouldn't have hesitated.
I don't think Ball or Markkanen have as much value around the nba as they might think. Markkanen still hasn't been better than Saric. Ball has proven skills, but he's also got to be in just the right situation. He's a poor team's Ben Simmnos.

Re: Around the League: Offseason
Ball does have value, but as you say it only works with a team built entirely to maximize his skill set. He's not really a plug & play type player like a Chris Paul or what have you. If I were him I'd have fixed that broken shot years ago. Especially if I knew it were the difference between $100M and $150M.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 9:49 amJohn Collins is asking for the max, right? At 4/80 ATL wouldn't have hesitated.

Orlando is one of the worst offenders here. They are eagerly locking in a team that is going to miss the playoffs.INFORMER wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:43 pmThere is no shortage of bad-decision making in NBA front offices. Markelle Fultz?! Gross.

You just know that in 2-3 years these same teams are going to come to the negotiating table, hat in hand, saying they just can't find a way to stay profitable, and that the players will need to take a few points less of basketball related income in the next CBA.
Re: Around the League: Offseason
Maybe. The problem is that too many teams have the center position solved, and upgrading to Ayton just won't have value for them.Wally_West wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 8:41 pmAgree to disagree. I know I’m in the minority but I think he’s going have a good to great season this year and will average somewhere around 20 & 12, making him prime trade bait next season if star becomes available.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 8:10 pmYou’re not getting a star player for Ayton, sorry it’s just not happening.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 8:07 pmThisWally_West wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 7:58 pmI don’t know why so many on here are ready to trade Ayton for damn role players. I don’t oppose trading him but we should aim a little higher. Jeez.
I only see Brooklyn, Detroit, Charlotte, Chicago, NY (maybe), OKC, and Toronto as potential suitors for Ayton, and none of them are going to offer a star or someone close to it.

There are some serious issues with the groupings. How is Gasol more expensive than Jokic?
Re: Around the League: Offseason
Hey, look at that. Something we can agree on.

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Re: Around the League: Offseason
Who is the $3 NY Knick?
And is that Sarunas Maurcilonas (I'm probably butchering the spelling) in the $2 group?

Re: Around the League: Offseason
Not sure about Jokic at $2: but Gasol had a great career. I can see your point
Also, Yao Ming is a bargain at $1, really tempting if you not are considering a modern play environment
