Without AD, Suns can ensure that Mikal or Crowder is on him all the time, even after switches and the P&R. You can also run a box 4 + 1 and other defensive stunts to make sure LeBron is always both double teamed, and one of them is a top defender.

Without AD, and possibly KCP, it's a good gamble to dare the rest of the Lakers beside LeBron to beat you.
