That's why I like this place a lot more than say a CNN of FOX discussion forum. People here present facts and figures, keep it civil and discuss in a logical way their opinions etc. Any other place and we would all just be calling each other names by now. Thanks, 'dack. BTW, I do agree with some of the claims others have made. I do totally agree that looting is not acceptable. I don't condone violence as a response to a jury/trial verdict that a group doesn't like. I also agree that people walking around with the "hands up, don't shoot" is a bit melodramatic, though I have seen some ugly responses to that, as well. Like that restaurant that posted what I consider to be a fairly plainly racist message in response to the Rams players' action:

"Due to the bone headed "hands up, don't shoot" act by the number of Rams players on the Sunday game the Time Out Bar & Grill will no longer support the St Louis Rams, so we will no longer have Happy hours for the Rams games and all signs and pictures will be off the walls... We have to stand up to thugs who destroy our community and burn down local businesses, and boycott the other thugs/organizations who support them..."

Etymology of the word Thug derives from the Indian Thugee cult and was popularized in the English language during the British occupation of the subcontinent. What part of that equals black in your mind?

When I am called a 'jackbooted thug' by a leftist, are they saying I'm a black Nazi? Oh wait, I can't say black anymore, that's racist, too, it's 'African American'. Whereas person of color is okay but colored person is not. This is why I say "dude" all the time. Hopefully it will not become racist or I'm screwed.

Sorry - this one last post and I'm out. Was actually checking to see if any thoughts concerning the Garner chokehold verdict in NYC had been posted, but saw this and I had to chime in on the ridiculousness.

A thug is somebody who uses violence or the threat of violence to intimidate others in a malicious way. That's my definition. It isn't a code word for blacks in my world. Anybody that riots and burns down businesses to protest the government is a thug. Want to hurt the government? Burn cop cars and city busses, not your fellow neighborhood businesses. The same with those that win a Championship and then riot. They are just idiots and thugs, white, black or whatever. You can use any derogatory word in place of the N word and it works as an insult. You can't ban every word.

People are going to hate no matter what. Some rednecks are going to hate Blacks, Mexicans and Liberals no matter what. Some blacks are going to hate all whites and cops no matter what. Some Liberals aren't ever going to like Republicans. The Shia hate the Sunni's and on and on and on.

What is hate? Isn't it just a defensive mechanism to fear? Blacks fear the police therefore hate them. Whites fear the blacks therefore they hate them. Christians fear Muslims. Republicans fear Democrats. We hate what we fear. We fear what we don't understand. We stick together with people that look or think like us and fear/hate/don't understand everybody else.
