I'm saying...it's a game breaker. A 'Yes' or 'No' vote hangs in the balance. It's a question of character and decision making ability. Far more insightful than asking about why a shorter sentence was given to pedophilias than recommended by the Congressional board or why she would refer to Bush and Rumsfeld as war criminals in legal briefings.
I believe Bush started that war based on bs he knew was bs and hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives as a result. Putin has been busy making up bs reasons to invade Ukraine too and thousands have already died.

On Tuesday, during her Senate confirmation hearing Jackson pushed back on the claim that she is soft on child porn charges, citing Congress’s own language. “That statute doesn’t say ‘look only at the guidelines and stop.’ The statute doesn’t say ‘impose the highest possible penalty for this sickening and egregious crime,’ Jackson said. “The statute says to calculate the guidelines, but also look at various aspects of this offense and impose a sentence that is ‘sufficient but not greater than is necessary to promote the purposes of punishment.'”
For example, in 2013 as a federal district court judge, Jackson gave a much lighter sentence to an 18-year-old offender who was was deemed to not be a threat to children but had shared two dozen videos of underage teens with an FBI agent, than she did for an older man who sent nude pictures of his 10-year-old and over 100 child porn videos to an agent. Both are crimes, and Jackson sentenced both men, but did so with varying levels of severity to match the varying severity of each crime. (Current sentencing guidelines for child porn sharing have been bipartisanly criticized as draconian.)

She explained that unwarranted sentencing disparities in child pornography cases is something the U.S. Sentencing Commission “has been focused on for long time.”
“All of the offenses are horrible, all of the offenses are egregious but the guidelines … are being departed from even with respect to the government’s recommendation,” she said.
She noted that federal prosecutors asked for a sentence well below what the guidelines recommended for the defendant. She argued this shows “the guidelines in this area are not doing the work of differentiating defendants.”
I think Bush is a war criminal too. I don't think a supposed impartial judge should be using this type of language in court briefings though. That's not hard to understand, is it? Until he's tried and found guilty, she should say that. I wouldn't hold a vote against her for that part, tbh.
Now the part on the pedos sentencing... This is motherjones and the hill carrying water for her and her actions. Even though the prosecution didn't ask for the maximum sentence, and the guidelines give a range, she always picked much lower than the prosecution and lower than the range in the guidelines, to the point of the lowest mandatory sentencing. That was what was tried to be spun, in a pretty bad way. I honestly wish she would do a better job of explaining herself, but it's been poor, imo. I've heard her say something about using probationary guidelines, but those are supposed to be entirely private and are not some publicly known or available guidelines, including she wouldn't have those either. So that wasn't a great reason given.

This "kiddie porn" angle on KBJ is so silly. She gave smaller sentences to a few child porn cases because they were literally a just-turned-18-year-old boy who had pictures of women who were close to his own age but under 18. If he's 17 years and 364 days old and his girlfriend is 17 or 16 that isn't a crime, but the day he turns 18 he has to be hauled away for 5-8 years? That's silly. But an old man with pictures of nude little kids, that's way more serious. Of course she considered two cases like that to be different.
The GOP is just searching for something to attack her for, and there isn't much "there" there. I like how they accuse her of being a pedo buddy and CRT radical while also saying that they won't put her through all the character attacking that poor Kavanaugh faced. Okay.
It is because some of that party still caters to the Qanon craziness.

More like every case, but hey do your best of using word smith to make it look petty.
I tend to agree about the 18 yr old case, it seems silly to do things based on an exact date of age when it's within days of the birthdate.
I am sure they are searching, because of course this is a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. I seem to remember a lot of attacks on the Republican nominees, but I'm sure that slipped your mind and only mentioned Kavanaugh. I think you should spare everyone your angst and shock that it happens from the other side. Seems silly to even bring it up or expect different.

Your facts are wrong again. Not sure you are aware they are wrong, so I won't call it lying.
1) She didn't use any of that language as a judge. It was when she was a lawyer defending her clients.
2) "She always picked much lower"-- You know better, but still choose to do this.
1) Oh, it wasn't as a judge, it was still as an officer of the court? I guess that makes a huge difference.
2) Every single case of pedos that came before her resulted in lower sentencing. You know this, but still choose to do this.

You carry so much water for people that don't give a shit about you. It is so weird.
So do you. That's weird too.

I don't jump to defend anyone accused of being shitty. I don't care what party they belong to or if someone told me to like or hate them. I don't belong to any political party, and although I typically vote for democrats, it isn't because I think they are great candidates--it is usually because they are the least worst candidate.
You seem to be stuck in this Qanon and Trumpublican conspiracy echo chamber.

In2's right, Indy. Like how you always defend former Gov. Cuomo, and Bill Clinton, and Anthony Weiner. You are always defending those guys and saying they never did anything wrong!

I said that he defends these guys? I've been stuck in my echo chamber here on phx-suns.net. I need to get out and experience life.

It doesn’t matter who they picked. In today’s times it’s the job of the apposing side to paint the nominee as the wrong choice. This all bores me. It all boils down to if they have enough votes before the conformation hearing even started. This is all show and meaningless to me.
In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote.
I read they didn't even have confirmation hearings for SCOTUS justices until one was demanded when the first Jew was nominated. Suddenly folks had a lot of questions they wanted answered. But I am not sure the two are connected.

CNN is reporting stuff too. All the big media giants are finally reporting about the stuff that's on the laptop and that the laptop is real, after claiming it was Russian disinformation. They are trying to get ahead of what's coming, because they are hoping they aren't implicated in the coverup.

Sure, the Kraken will be here any day now. Lock those pedos up, right?
