This isnt near enough value for Ayton, and I'm saying this as probably his biggest hater lol.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 12:47 amOff the wall idea of the day (that I think works)..
Cam Payne & Ayton sign and trade to Charlotte for Terry Rozier and the 13th pick. Use the 13th pick on Mark Williams from Duke.

Guys you can’t sign-and-trade Ayton before free agency starts lol. No trades involving 2022 draft picks are even possible.

So we can't sign him and trade him for the Bucks' 1968 first round pick? Is that what you're saying?
People need to step back and take some time off to reaccess before trading off all the players on the team that has gone 115-39 over the last two years.

But that blew a 2-0 lead in the Finals and then had a hard time getting past the #9 seed and then blew another 2-0 lead with home court advantage to the #4 seed. The Bobster wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 6:51 amSo we can't sign him and trade him for the Bucks' 1968 first round pick? Let's look at why that happened then. Last year it was a lack of big man depth. This season was a lack of guard depth which broke down Paul and Booker in the playoffs. Mostly Paul which led to Booker being doubled and trapped.Indy wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 6:52 amBut that blew a 2-0 lead in the Finals and then had a hard time getting past the #9 seed and then blew another 2-0 lead with home court advantage to the #4 seed. The Bobster wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 6:51 amSo we can't sign him and trade him for the Bucks' 1968 first round pick? We addressed the issue from the Milwaukee finals. We thought we addressed guard depth but clearly didn't. Do we start panicking and losing trades just to try to shed some blame? I think we're closer than we are further from getting back to the Finals. Whether we trade Ayton for a star guard or forward that can create is yet to be determined. A S&T with him is our strongest play to get back something great.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Can anyone confirm whether packaging a player with Ayton in a sign and trade is legal?

What worries me the most is that without DA we don`t have a young core. The core Book - Bridges - Johnson - Shamet (like Monty said and I still cannot believe he included Shamet) is not enough at all to be relevant for the future.

Re: Suns Off-Season Thread
Their biggest mistake was going through the year with Cam Payne and Landry Shamet as their guard depth. They had reason to believe Payne would play better, but he regressed. With Shamet, they got exactly what he has always been, which isn't good enough to be your third guard if you want to win a title (but they were expecting him to be their fourth guard).
Once Paul and Booker started to struggle they didn't really have any options but to continue playing them because they didn't have any faith in anyone else. Trading Ayton just creates one hole to fix another. If they had another player who could create offense it would alleviate a lot of their problems - be it a third guard or a (preferably big) forward. A healthy Dario solves some of that problem on offense, but you lose a lot going from Crowder to Dario on defense. And who knows how healthy Dario will even be next year.
I would look to resign McGee, maybe Biyombo, and trade either Payne or Shamet in a deal for a third guard. I'd also play Johnson more at SF which would make Craig expendable again.

Re: Suns Off-Season Thread
It depends on what you get back in an Ayton trade. For instance, you could send him to Detroit for some combination of Stewart, Bey, Hayes, or whoever they pick at #5 and then you’ve got more young pieces. None as good as Ayton, but they add up.sunset rubdown wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 8:40 amWhat worries me the most is that without DA we don`t have a young core. One thing I’d point out as well, let’s assume CP3 plays the next two years here. He would have 1 non-guaranteed deal left on his contract…that also happens to be when Shamet would have two non guaranteed deals left on his contract. That gives us the ability to take on about 50 million in salary without needing cap space. You trade them for a big salary player along with draft capital and the receiving team can just waive both players and save a ton of money.
For instance, Damian Lillard would be going into the last year of his contract…let’s say he wants out of Portland as their new rebuild didn’t work. CP3, Shamet, and a pick for Lillard would work and then Portland could just waive CP3 and Shamet and save nearly 50 million in salary/cap space.
Basically, there’s going to be a window that year to add a big time player to our Booker-Bridges-Johnson core(or whatever core is here at the time).
We have enough non guaranteed salary to acquire anyone currently signed to a contract in 2024-25 except Steph Curry. So you could do this for Durant, Giannis, Paul George, Kawhi, Embiid, Luka, etc. Whatever team that needs to move on and rebuild.
Re: Suns Off-Season Thread
Unless we can get a really good haul for Ayton like KAT or Adebayo, I think we just need to roll with him. Just let the money thing work out however it works out and then move forward. It's not like he hasn't progressed each year. We know what he is and he's pretty darn good. He's no Joel Embiid but who is? Once he's got that second contract, I think he'll be happy to be here. Everybody, and I mean everybody, needs to cool down and take a break before evaluating what happened and how to move forward. Everybody as in the front office, the players, and yes, even us, the fans.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Luka for Ayton? Not sure why Dallas wouldn't pull the trigger. They'd get a #1 draft pick player and only be giving up the #3 pick.Split T wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 9:13 amWe have enough non guaranteed salary to acquire anyone currently signed to a contract in 2024-25 except Steph Curry. Big +1 on this. Happy to consider moving Ayton if we can materially improve the team. But most of these trades are big steps back. Ayton is imperfect but still a valuable player. Look at how many teams are rumored to be lining up to pay him. He's a guy that a lot of teams would love to have. The smart move is to sign him, keep him for now, and once the BYC rule is gone, if a good trade emerges, so be it. Don't just throw him away for garbage.Superbone wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 9:22 amUnless we can get a really good haul for Ayton like KAT or Adebayo, I think we just need to roll with him. Would people on this train be OK doing this if it means we have to let Cam Johnson walk because Sarver won't pay for him after dumping 35M/year into Ayton? Or if it means trading away Bridges for an expiring deal?Mori Chu wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 9:55 amBig +1 on this. Happy to consider moving Ayton if we can materially improve the team. Re: Suns Off-Season Thread
I would be perfectly fine with letting Johnson get away (preferably for draft picks) if he got a ridiculous offer. He's a nice player, but he's certainly replaceable. I wouldn't pay him the kind of money they gave Bridges.

We have another year before we have to pay Cam…I’m cool waiting to decide on Cam…depends on what we can get Cam for this summer. If he signs for 15 per year, I’d just lock him up. You can trade him next offseason when the deal actually kicks in.
Gotta lock up assets, you can always move them later. I think we’re better off waiting on Ayton too. Lock him up and we can make the Cam or Ayton decision(if it’s necessary) later.
