I only use them for quick salary stuff that hasn't changed in a while. Spotrac seems to be updated quickly and is much more accurate.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:28 pmBasketball-ref doesn’t have Kemba listed on their payroll for some reason and other sites do…that takes them from like 40 million down to 13 million.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:23 pmFrom the tweet after the draft, they were not in the top 5 teams with cap space.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:22 pmWhat about OKC? Orlando is a few million away, and they could still clear it before Friday.
If the Spurs are serious at tanking for next year to get Wembanyama, then maybe they are out on him, too.

Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Yeah but WNBA pays nothing compared to NBA, and when she got her current deal a lot of people spoke out about how she made like 5x the super max player salary. Spurs could pay her more in a 3-5 year contract than she could make in 20 years in the WNBA.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Ya I think she’d leave the wnba in a heartbeat if the nba came calling with a head coach position. It does seem like it’s unlikely Pop would wait this long to retire though… just the timing of the Spurs tanking seems weird to me.

I think this kind of thing is more likely.

Dusan Alimpijevic will join Spurs coaching staff in NBA Summer League 2022
Nevertheless, he was voted the EuroCup Coach of the Year for the 2021-22 campaign.
Alimpijevic became the youngest coach to win the award at the age of 35.
He engineered a rarely seen in-season turnaround that saw his team win just four of its first 13 games before going on a run of 8-1 that included three postseason road wins in a span of just 14 days.

I think you’re right. Either Jae is used in a package to net someone big or used to help upgrade the bench for a third guard. I just hope we learn pretty quickly about the Nets’ plans so JJ can act on other potential deals.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:01 pmJae Crowder is really the only guy I think has both serious trade value and the Suns would be open to moving.Drewsprocket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:56 pmIs it fair to think JJ is not fucking around with mild trades and additions?
(Obviously besides Ayton on a 5-year max deal)

I think he was mainly talking about next summer when Kyrie is a free agent (he thinks replacing CP3 with Kyrie is a possibility).

Kyrie the basketball player is a phenomenal fit, but Kyrie the person is about as risky a fit as it gets.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
I don't get what Detroit is doing. They had a good draft, but then they follow that by ruining $40m of cap space just to take on crappy players and get two second-round picks? What?! Do they really think they are a playoff team next year with their current roster?
I also think the pursuit of Brunson is a bit much. He's a nice player, but no way can he be the lead guard on a good team. Typical NYK reach where they overpay a good-but-not-great player and lock themselves in for 4-5 years of mediocrity. Have fun with that.
Really interesting how the Ayton market has dried up. Being an RFA is rough. I do think there's now a good chance we will re-sign him. I hope they can mend fences with him because I don't think any of the trades on the table make us better. Keeping Ayton is our best chance to keep competing for a title for the next 1-2 years.

Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
A few vets on ending contracts won't hurt Detroit and they might even be able to move them later on.
Brunson's an overpay for sure but it's the Knicks and they need a "big" signing. They'll also prob end up shopping him for Mitchell down the road.
RFAs have it tough and the market may not be there unless it's a S+T. Even Miles Bridges may have a hard time getting a max offer now.

I don’t really get what Detroit did either, but it’s not terrible. I would have used the cap space differently, but they’ll still maintain space next summer and Noel and Burks are both movable. It’s not a bad trade at all, just meh.

Nobody is gonna pay big money to a C who can't create his own shot. They see what happened to the Jazz.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 7:05 amI don't get what Detroit is doing. That's just the Knicks being the Knicks.
There's been a long history of them acquiring expensive "stars" who sometimes pan out, but frequently don't -
Walt Bellamy
Dave DeBusschere
Earl Monroe
Jerry Lucas
Bob McAdoo
Spencer Haywood
Marvin Webster
Bernard King
Paul Westphal
Stephon Marbury
Antonio McDyess
Allan Houston
Carmelo Anthony
Amar'e Stoudemire
Kristaps Porzingis
along with highly-publicized near misses -
Dolph Schayes
George McGinnis
Julius Erving
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
LeBron James
Kevin McHale
It's their time-honored tradition.

The big difference is that Gobert can't make a shot more than 3' from the basket, and he frequently gets played off the court defensively in the postseason because he can't guard out on the perimeter.

Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Rudy can guard the perimeter fine, the Jazz problem is nobody on their team can guard the perimeter and they rely on Rudy to cover for everyone. Teams just spread it out and force Rudy to either help at the rim and leave his man wide open for a corner 3 or leave an awful defender on an island with no help at the rim. Both are crappy options and are a reason why you don’t max a defensive only player. No matter how good. There are always ways to neutralize a defender.
You also shouldn’t max a dependent offensive player(like Ayton) because they can also be neutralized.

I think the offseason is playing favorable to us. I think we will manage to sign Ayton for less than the maximum.
Re: Around the League News - 2022 Offseason Edition
Or be able to sign and trade him for a decent haul. There’s no threat of a team stealing him with an offer sheet so he’s really just a trade target and not a free agent for 28 or 29 teams.

Gobert would probably be even better here than he is in Utah because of the way the Suns guard on the perimeter. At least until the playoffs start lol.
