At the very least I'm done with Sarver. He hasn't shown any redeeming qualities as an owner, and tearing down a team that's a title contender would be the last straw.

Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
If we lose DA for nothing AND fail with getting KD here, Jones should be run out of town (hopefully with Sarver) so we can build a fully staffed Bball Ops department. Can you believe we have more people on our playing roster than running all of Phoenix Suns Basketball Operations?
Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
And honestly Sarver needs to be run out of town no matter what. Fuck that guy.
Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
Serious question here: If a botched RFA handling is what determines whether you keep following your favorite team of the last 25-30 years, why not just go pick a different team now? What is it that draws you to root for the Suns, but will be broken by a shitty free agency period in 2022?

Huh?Indy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 6:27 pmLet's maybe see a single year of slipping below 63% before we say that.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 3:43 pmI will again repeat: he’s going to be making over 40M per year at age 38.Indy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 3:31 pmSince 1982 (when they started tracking advanced stats like TS%) there have only been 33 times a guy was able to score at least 25 points on a TS% of at least 63%. Kevin Durant has 9 of them. Nobody else has more than 4. And KD has done his age 24 season, and 25, and 26. And 27, and 28 and 29 and 30, and 32 and 33. The only year he missed it since 24 was his Achilles year, but came back and did it back to back again.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Jul 11, 2022 3:12 pmYou keep saying top 5 player.
He’s 34. He’s going to be 38 on the last year of his contract that is massive.
It’s not that simple. He’s not 24.
You’re drunk dude
You really think at 38 he’s going to be a super max player?
Lmao. This is your best stand you’ve ever taken
Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
You are mixing up ages again. HIs final year of the contract he will be 37. And yeah, if what everyone is saying is true about the cap and what 50M will be worth in 4 years, he can likely prove he is worth it. He is one of the best scorers the NBA has ever seen, and is extremely efficient at it.

One year we were watching them in the NBA Finals against the Bucks.
One year later we're wondering if they're stupid enough to let to let a good, young starter from that team go for nothing, following a playoff collapse of epic proportions.
Well done Suns.

Fair, but it’s all connected. I understand you’re trying to discuss whether it’s possible to get KD and keep Ayton, but if you do that, I think it almost surely means Mikal and Cam are gone and maybe Crowder.
If we trade Ayton for Turner and a 1st, you could either use Turner as a contract so you get to 35 mil easier and/or throw an extra pick in the trade and maybe we get to keep Cam or Mikal.
I wouldn’t be upset if we managed to field a CP3/Booker/KD/Ayton team, that would obviously be great, but if there’s a chance to keep Mikal I’d prefer that. I’d also prefer A Turner/CamJ combo over Ayton if a pick helps us keep Cam J.

Maybe we package Payne or Shamet and a 1st for a better guard off the bench and we use the pick we get for Ayton. Or maybe the extra pick is what we need to hold onto Cam J in the deal. Hard to say a 1st wouldn’t be useful in some way.

Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
As I've always said, I'd be on board with matching that kind of contract, but I'm unsure now because of how it could affect trading for Durant.
I prefer to keep Mikal over Ayton if also acquiring KD.
My preferred order of possible outcomes.
1. KD & Mikal
2. KD & most of the bench depth, additional trade acquisition (both Mikal & Ayton out)
3. Mikal & Ayton (run it back with minor tweaks)

You would rather have Mikal & Ayton than KD & Ayton???Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 12:10 am

Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
I'm not an Ayton guy and I agree. If that's the ONLY return that's bad asset management.
Now getting a pick or a big trade exception makes a huge difference.
Love, Hurts.
Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
A trade exception they’ll never use? We’ve seen that happen multiple times.

He knows if he holds onto it long enough the casual fan will forget about it
Re: Deandre Ayton's future with the Suns?
I know for sure you can't combine TPEs with a player but can't quite recall if you can combine TPEs with other TPEs. I'm getting old. Sorry.
