It could have been a Ninja keychain.

Unless you nail him in the eye or something, I don’t think a Ninja keychain is likely to do any serious or lasting damage.

At least, that’s how it looks. Hard to find objective information on these things. I searched ninja keychain on Google, and 99 of the first 100 hits were stores selling them. (The other mentioned it in a discussion of the attack on Zeldin.) Nobody who isn’t selling them finds them worth discussing. I’ve got to think that if it really were an effective weapon, it would have gotten some attention from people other than merchants.

I thought it was a joke, too. I have never heard of it.

It’s a real thing, available from hundreds of merchants.

This is the kind that Zeldin’s attacker had:

Looks like it could be pretty painful, but far from a lethal weapon.

Lots of outrage for him saying a bad word in front of kids... completely ignoring another guy laughing about children being murdered...

Everyone expects Beto to be PG13 and he went R rated.

Everyone expects a MAGA guy to be repulsive and he was.

I remember that Presidential primary debate in 2020 where Beto said something like, "YES, I -am- coming to take your guns away." I think that was a line that will be used against him for years to come. In general I don't think a majority of Texan voters want to hear that particular message. They may support some reasonable gun control compromises, but don't fall into the hands of the opposition by eagerly accepting their phrasing and messaging. The "Dems want to come take away all of your guns" is an almost entirely untrue statement; don't say that you are actually going to do that.

He said AR-15 and AK-47s. He didn't say guns. I know people that worship weapons will say that doesn't matter, but there are millions of normal people in Texas, too.

It looks like Gavin McInnes, the founder of the Proud Boys extremist org, may have been raided in the middle of broadcasting his live show.

Oh, wow. This guy is an elected official in Las Vegas, a Democrat, who just got arrested for murdering a reporter who wrote negative articles about him.

I saw a report where the whole thing was staged and no cops were ever there.

The GOP is the party of radical right-wing domestic terrorism.

Not domestic, but terrorism. It's 9/11, and while I don't get too sentimental on this day, I do always think of this. In many ways I think 9/11 and our collective response to it revealed and accelerated a lot of what is bad about this country. Fear of the "other," Islamophobia, desire for foreign wars and bloodshed, division between us internally, the selfish nature of our politics. And so on.
