Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
I'm biased, but I think that KJ is worthy of the hall of fame.
On a slightly separate note, I think that Marion and Stoudemire both should be in the ring of honor, and it's wild that they haven't been installed yet.

Marion especially.
When you examine Suns career statistical leaders, Marion's name occurs frequently in the top 5 or top 10.
Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...

On the second, I was speaking specifically and exclusively as an NBA basketball player and his play on the court. The allegations, if true, are disgusting.

If Tim Hardaway is in, Kevin Johnson should be in.

Yes, in comparison, KJ was a far better player, imo.

Thanks for the recap. That’s what I was looking for.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 11:24 amKareem was an incredibly smart big man.
Remember that, after he dominated college basketball his first year, the NCAA outlawed the dunk.
So he perfected the skyhook and other subtle post moves, and still remained dominant.
He was very fast and athletic, dabbling in martial arts and yoga to remain flexible and in game shape.
He wasn't as strong at Wilt, but then, nobody was or is.
He could score on anybody.
For comparison, Kareem averaged 31.8 points, 15.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 17 games versus Wilt. Chamberlain averaged 17.6 rebounds, 16.3 points and 3.8 assists in those games.
A more interesting matchup was Kareem vs. Artis Gilmore:
Kareem - 36.3 mpg, 21.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.8 apg on 53.6% FG, 70.9% FT
Artis - 36.3 mpg, 19.4 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 3.1 apg on 57.6% FG, 75.0% FT
(I once interviewed former journeyman NBA/ABA center Roger Brown, who played against Wilt and Artis. He said Artis was closest thing to Wilt in terms of strength and athleticism. That's why I used the comparison.)

Kareem was probably the best player in the league for the whole decade of the 70's, up until the time Moses Malone hit his stride in 1978-79. They were about as opposite as you could hope to fine - Kareem was all grace, skill and fundamentals, Moses was the most relentless player in the league who would just hammer away non-stop for 40 minutes a night.
Kareem was still a very productive center into his late 30's - a credit to his dedication and worth ethic, but also in part to the quality of players he was surrounded with.
He wasn't the athletic freak that Wilt was when he was young, but he was incredibly fluid and agile for his size.
Still, he was always a sourpuss, and I was never a big fan.

Not good if this is true
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
That sounds like BS to me. I don't see why a possible future sale of a team would block that team from trading 1st-round picks. Honestly it sounds like the person just made that up.
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
Well it would be Sam Garvin that’s doing it…there’s no rule against it, but the current governor can certainly give the front office directives to follow.
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
I don't see how picking up $25 million per year player (John Collins - just as an example) or giving up a 1st round pick is going to stop some corporate bigshot from paying $3 Billion for a sports franchise.
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
So Cam Johnson reportedly is supposed to be out 1-2 months. We have just passed the one month mark. If he gets back in the first half of January, that will give him and the Suns about 13 games or so before the trade deadline.
Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
INF, I think it's just nasty that you have another team's big man as your avi. This is a Suns site, fella!

Re: Suns News Week 8 (12/5 - 12/11)
I wouldn’t mind Bamba…it could open up the opportunity to move Ayton for something else and have a replacement on the roster. Ayton is playing well and I’m not going to say we have to trade him(we’re getting enough out of him right now to justify his salary) but I’d like to go in a different direction with roster building and Ayton doesn’t really make sense for that.

Bol Bol!
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I like your thinking. But I wonder if he has more value not playing before then. Dude just needs to be able to pass a physical and be cleared for regular basketball career. I don’t need him playing reckless again.
