Random question:

we’ve seen a few recent instances at the end of games where a team is down 2 or 3 with 1 free throw left and only a few seconds and they rightly miss the free throw on purpose to try and secure the offensive rebound and score quickly.

My question is, what would be the penalty if the defensive team would goaltend the free throw? If it’s just a 1-point penalty, wouldn’t conceding the point be the best strategy, especially if you have a timeout left and could advance the ball?

I had the same thought watching Gobert go coast to coast. He screwed up the finish, but I thought that was a great effort and not deserving of criticism.
