Saw also that he valued it at 20 billion…. More than half of what he paid for it. I’m guessing this will be written off in his taxes as a “loss”.

Re: Social media
NPR has decided to stop using Twitter, partly because Musk choose recently to label them as "state media".
Re: Social media
Good for them.

Re: Social media
Speaking of state media. FOX News is Republican state media and they have been busted for lying about Jan 6. Of course we all know that already. It’s crystal clear to the judge in the case that FOX is guilty of spreading those false accusations against Dominion and he is freshly pissed at Murdoch and FOX for not disclosing information.

Dominion Voting Systems remains “under siege” from threats spawned by 2020 election-conspiracy theories propounded by Fox News TV hosts and guests, a lawyer for Dominion told a judge.
But in a written ruling last month, Davis said the network isn’t automatically protected from spreading false facts. “The evidence developed in this civil proceeding demonstrates that is CRYSTAL clear that none of the statements relating to Dominion about the 2020 election are true,” the judge wrote March 31.
The Fox reports falsely accused Dominion of rigging its software to flip votes away from Trump and paying government officials to use its machines — on top of claiming it was founded in Venezuela “to rig elections for dictator Hugo Chavez,” Davis said in his ruling. Those claims were defamatory because they were false and struck at the integrity of Dominion’s business, he said.
Judge chides Fox News over ‘missing’ documents, orders investigation

An attorney for Dominion Voting Systems alleged that Fox News withheld information that would have entitled Dominion to obtain more of network co-founder Rupert Murdoch’s communications in the election-technology company’s $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit.
Justin Nelson, an attorney for Dominion, had told the court Tuesday that the company had only belatedly learned that Murdoch holds a title as an officer of Fox News as well as the larger Fox Corporation, which should have made more of his business communications accessible to the plaintiff.
Judge Davis noted that “it’s been represented more than once to me that he’s not an officer of Fox News,” adding that, “I need to feel comfortable that when you represent something to me, it’s the truth. I’m not very happy right now. I don’t know why this is such a difficult thing.”
“Omission is a lie,” he said. “People need to understand: Don’t play games with this stuff.”
I hope the jury decides to give Dominion more than they are seeking.

Re: Social media
Truth be told... I really didn't think Elon would have shit the bed this bad with Twitter. I thought he'd try to reinstate some protection on freedom of speech and I was WAAAAY off. I knew he'd be an asshole, but had you told me that twitter was going to be in total disarray and worth less than half of what he paid for it; I'd probably laugh.

The CBC (Canada) also announces they are leaving Twitter. Similar reasons as NPR and PBS.

That's unfortunate. This should probably be in the technology thread. As much as I don't like Musk, I appreciate and encourage the effort.
