Good riddance.
He helped us get to the NBA Finals. Horrible take.
So you're saying we can't ever say good riddance to a player who helped us get to the NBA Finals? Hmm...seems I've seen a lot of that around here. :P

No one with half of a brain will trade for Paul when they know he'll eventually be waived.

Edit: I kinda take that back. I guess a team could try to shed salary by trading for and waiving him. What I meant was that no team should trade for him if they intend on keeping him on their roster.
can’t even do that…suns have to guarantee his salary before trading him or can only trade him for the 15 million he’s guaranteed.

The only scenario is if there’s a team that knows they won’t get him in free agency and has a spare 30 million contract(s) laying around.

OK then. My initial thought was right. No team with half a brain would trade for and pay Chris Paul $30M for next season.

His times over with us. He has failed us every year in the playoffs with actually being able to suit up. Time to move on.
I don't disagree with any of that. Just the manner in which you expressed it.

The way the team has flamed out in such a disgraceful manner under his leadership two years in a row has poured cold water on the warm feelings I used to have for him.

It sounds like Haynes jumped the gun here with this scoop / report. Oops. I don't think CP3 is worth $30m but I do appreciate the way he helped us become a contender and was an integral part of one of the most fun and successful Suns teams / runs in franchise history. That said, I do think it's time to either waive him and welcome him back at a low salary, or let him go to some other team. We can't tie up $30m in a 38-year-old guy who plays half the year and gets hurt every playoffs.

I was actually hesitant to make a thread off Haynes' tweet because he's a little shaky with his reporting but the Suns are at least discussing the move and it's likely he's waived/stretched to free up space for the exceptions. It's logical at this point given his salary and our depth issues. Should make for a fun/interesting offseason. We need to get younger/faster and more explosive but also need guys who know how to work and win.

The tweet brought me so much joy, and then Woj and Shams had to pee in my cereal.

Personally, I'd like to keep CP3 here, but if we can't, what if we tried some sort of sign and trade with the Lakers?

It could be something along the lines of a resigned Russel + at least one other combination of their first rounder or someone like Vanderbilt or even Rui (don't know if he's eligible to be traded as a RFA).

It would be nice for CP3 to be even closer to his family in LA, I know he's on good terms with LeBron, and the Lakers probably want to put the Kyrie speculation behind them. Russel gives us an imperfect but capable guard who could start, but could also be a backup if we could add a better starting PG. Adding the 17th pick or Vanderbilt can help us fill some needs and get a little younger.

Please no D’Angelo Russell under any circumstances.

That would be very hard to do. We’d have to sign and trade for him and that’s hard to do if we keep CP3 at his full salary, which we’d have to do as we can’t trade for Russell until free agency opens.

No. I'd rather keep the old guy if this is the option given. DLo stinks.

Just say no to D-Lo. Inefficient, low-IQ player making too much money. Reminds me of Oubre in some ways. We don't need guys like that.
