I’d take D-Lo cheap, he’s a free agent, but I’m not paying him what he probably wants

He just always seems to disappear into the background. I'd hold out for better options.

We know the bad stuff about Paul. He's fallen off a 50% cliff due to age and he can't stay healthy in the playoffs. But the good thing about him is that he's such a basketball head that he understands the Suns financial situation and he is willing to work with them in order to optimize the team.

He still realizes we're his best chance at a championship. Seems he's willing to make it work so we're not financially handicapped.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I think there’s an offer for him to come back for CP3 to weigh and decide.

Can we decide after the fact to stretch his salary?
I looked into this and it turns out the Suns have one business day after waiving him to inform the league that they want to stretch the contract. I suppose this means they can waive him at 8 am on a Friday (after the draft, for example) and they have until Monday afternoon to decide.

(I'd take Oubre back)
Between DLo and Oubre, it's Oubre in a landslide.

Where did you find this? I heard you could do it later, but it wasn’t a reliable source

It's in the (current) CBA, Article VII, section (d), paragraph 6.

Doesn’t even look like there is a benefit to CP3 getting more than the minimum. He can’t double dip according to Marks

It’s not a 1 for 1 offset. He can make some money.

Just read it, thanks! For what it’s worth, some rando on Twitter said this:

But not even sure the new cba would be in effect as we’d have to waive him before July 1st

I did verify(listening to the dunked on pod with Larry Coon) that in the new cba you have until August 30th to stretch a waived player. Still not sure if it applies to CP3 though as we’d waive him under the current CBA

Yeah, any new rules would not apply.

I do believe the guarantee date can be pushed back by mutual agreement, however (unless that doesn’t apply when crossing league years). For example, if one or both parties want the waiving to happen during free agency when he can immediately talk to teams.

One other thing I learned from the podcast…we can no longer(or will be limited in how much) roster 14 regular players and have 2-way guys essentially be that 15th guy. There will be a limited amount of games you can do that before you have to sign a 15th guy or your 2-way players become ineligible

Though that 15.8 million in dead cap will still be on our books in the new cba, so maybe the rules would then allow us to now stretch it? We’ll see.

CP3 did seem to want an answer sooner, so I doubt he’s gonna push back the guarantee date

I put zero stock in anything Thomas says publicly because now he's essentially a mouthpiece for the Suns front office. He's just trying to tip the scale in the Suns direction.

Absolutely not to DeAngelo Russell.

Smart players who consistently play hard. He fails both requirements.
