I think it was more eye-opening how bad Book was. The Ayton numbers, I suspect, lack context. That's why I was looking at the video. The first qualifying one I found was Paul drawing the defense and then feeding an open Ayton for a layup. If the sample is full of those type of plays, I think it changes the narrative you are trying to present. I don't think the majority of the plays are going to be Ayton getting the ball and creating shots for himself, like post-ups and taking his man off the dribble (although one video did show him doing exactly that).

Of course the majority of his field goals wouldn’t be him creating shots for himself, but it’s nice to have a big who can put the ball in the hoop and get you those easy baskets in crunch time.INFORMER wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 11:02 amI think it was more eye-opening how bad Book was. Also, he had the most made free throws on the team (better % than Booker on 3 fewer attempts, and better % and more attempts than Paul). Getting to line—and making them—is very valuable in clutch time.
EDIT: The context always gets lost in these discussions, also. I didn't come on here trying to prove that Ayton was our best clutch player. I was countering someone who claimed, "He just doesnt have an impact on the game and really makes bad mental errors at the worst times and comes up small when you need him the most."

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

We could always rename the thread "Cult of Ayton".

Phoenix Aytons will be great next year. Now that we finally added enough Aytons for a solid playoff rotation.

Re: All Things Ayton
I've long thought Kyrie was the target, never expected Beal to be one of the 4.
If somehow Holmes and Kyrie the plan vs Ayton and I guess Craig at this point? Sign me up for the Former.

Hahaha nah guys Jones is not the type to count his chickens before they're hatched. He prefaced it with: "And adding Brad, truly believe..."

If he’s gone, this thread will die, it might take a few months to a year but it’ll eventually die. Like Pennywise at the end of IT, either the long ass book or long ass movies, it’ll be a journey but the shit will end.

Yeah, I was as surprised as anybody that Jones feels Payne is that good. It was a real eye opener.

I do not want Harden! I would rather Ayton. Let’s not turn into the Nets over here.

For the love of heaven, NO to Kyrie...hell no...
Re: All Things Ayton
I’d 1000% prefer to keep ayton and all of his flaws over the head case that is kyrie. Hard pass.
Re: All Things Ayton
Hahaha you guys are getting it all wrong. It’s gonna be Ayton AND Kyrie. I can’t wait for that fanbase meltdown.
