2023 Suns General Offseason/PostSeason News Thread
Re: 2023 Suns General Offseason/PostSeason News Thread
A team could also use a trade exception to take his salary.
I will say that I think salary dumping him (even if you could get a couple picks) is foolish. Especially if we have injuries, he could be a very useful player for us, he’s a great “hype guy” for the team (one of our only ones left), and he’s a fan favorite who provides some continuity.

I’m sure it fell apart on who was giving up the compensation to Indy. To me it should be NY, they get off Fournier and create a pretty big TPE. They probably wanted us to give up a 2nd or two to get Indy to bite.
I think McConnell is better for us than Payne, but not overall a significantly better player. Just more reliable and a better fit.

Not sure why the Knicks would want Payne on the roster with Brunson, IQ, Deuce and now DDV in the mix. Cap relief down the line but still a longjam in the short term.

Ya I just don’t think it was about Payne at all. It was to get off Fournier and create a massive TPE

Fournier is basically expiring…didn’t realize his 2nd season left is a team option. Knicks really don’t need to get off that deal in that case.

Probably more of a professional courtesy so he's not rotting on the bench in a contract year. Think they promised to trade him this offseason to a team that would give him a chance at playing time.

Productive morning for the Suns.
Love, Hurts.

The 3 2nds for a pick swap we already swapped seems like a steal

I wasn’t far off.Wally_West wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2023 8:07 pmThis makes me feel like we are trying to trade Payne to a team that will take his whole salary and maybe gives us a couple 2nd round picks back.
Maybe Spurs? Not sure which teams still have cap space right now
Use Bol Bol to fill his roster spot and try to trade our TPE with our newly acquired 2nd round picks.

Once Gambo was hyping Goodwin as the main back up pg, it felt like they were gonna trade Payne away for salary dump.

Cool that we suddenly really value 2nd round picks.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

They should have a $6.5 million trade exception now (assuming that Bol signed for the minimum).

Would we get a trade exception for Payne too? If so, could combine that with player exception we currently have?
That would mean we have 10 million in TPE now armed with 6 2nd round picks? We ain’t done yet if that’s the case, we would be an interesting trade deadline team now.
